I already have the double-decker steam pot for the bao, and the other recipe looks legit, too. Thanks for posting this Mike, I might have to give her a go!

General Tso's chicken is my wife's favorite, too. Ha ha, weird. Man, but I hate it. I'll show her this, and have her make her own. It's going to be no doubt better than the takeout.

Thanks Para! I have been doing all the cooking the past few weeks because my wife has been working crazy hours (health care). I need some new recipes and these look great. Looks like General Tso’s chicken tonight!

Thanks for posting that, it is one of my favorites.

My business has slowed way down, I'm spending much more time at home (hiding from the virus) while my wife has almost normal office hours, so I'm chasing recipes and doing a lot more cooking.

I am hearing impaired, so videos / youtube, etc. are not the best medium for me; I prefer written stuff, to videos, so I did a little chasing and found your recipe here: https://soupeduprecipes.com/general-tsos-chicken/.

That site (soupedUpRecipes.com) is the source of the video that you posted. They have a bunch of other "better than takeout" recipes as well, in printed format. Probably video too, but I did not look for those.

Man, my mouth is watering now (Gen Tso's chicken)! Thanks to da 'Rona we've been trying to clear out our freezer (bunch of old frozen foods). I have lots of chicken I can use. The only things I don't have is Chinese black vinegar and the chilis. Not sure if my local grocer will have them, but if I have to I can vernutre to the city.

My wife is not all that fond of Chinese food, and won't let me eat the General Tso's at about the only Chinese restaurant around here. Says the Tso's is too sweet for my diabetes.

I occasionally hit the restaurant by myself. Big Grin

Me, too. I’m going to see if anything can sub for Chinese black vinegar.

That looks terrific! Cooking has been helping to take my mind to a calm place lately so I'll be giving General Tsao a try tonight.

I'll try the buns on the weekend!

Thanks Boss!

Yeah, the black vinegar- I've never heard of it before. I see it's available on Amazon. It's probably available locally to me. I want to avoid substitutions if possible. Balsamic just sounds wrong for this dish.

Notice that she mentions a documentary about the dish. Here's the documentary, but first, the Cliff Notes version of the story.

Here's the documentary. I haven't yet watched it.
