Everything you need to know about Afghanistan can be learned from Rudyard Kipling.

The only thing that's changed since then has been their occasional access to Toyota pickups and AKs.

It is the same thing you see in Africa as well. It is tribalism with a bit of religion thrown in the mix to really cement the stupid together. It has been bred into the population for so long, that these people are incapable of progressing forward for the betterment of their whole society. They don't or won't try to make changes to better themselves, and in turn their surrounding and life circumstances.

Can we pull out now?

The one thing they never destroy in Afghanistan are the poppy fields.
I'm beginning to wonder if the reason we are there is to protect the heroin trade.
And keep the money flowing to the MIC, of course.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Interesting how PRC would respond if terrorist attacks become prevalent there similar to those being observed in EU.

One potential problem would be that their goals are no doubt in some ways different from ours, thus their presence might prevent us from targeting people we think need killin'. For example, it seems possible to me they could make a business arrangement with folks we consider terrorists.

I don't think the Afghans want the Chinese to get pissed and fuck their world.

The Chinese have little regard for life, have the human capital (over 1 billion Chinese), a modern military and the willingness to use whatever force is necessary.

All of us are ready to curb stomp Afghanistan but we forget what it has added to the enrichment of our cultural and literary heritage for instance, but I quote only in part;

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, then roll on your rifle and blow out your brains and go to your God like a soldier. RK

We ignore operations in Afghanistan...
They ignore our operations in North Korea ?

Thats right. They wont fight anyone. They'll just take the minerals and bribe their way in and out.

Although the Chinese are often regarded as shrewd business people, they do have a pretty sizable and rapidly modernizing military. One of the things that is holding them back is lack of practice--they haven't had the same experience fighting wars as we have. They know this, we know this. They may be using this opportunity to train to fight an insurgency type conflict.

If ever a fight came to American soil, our opponents better be well equipped to fight an civilian insurgency in addition to conventional warfare.

Except our civilians would be better equipped than them in general. :P

Immediately not worth reading once Breitbart is invoked...but who has their head buried so deep in the sand that they're not aware that China has been heavily mining minerals in Afghanistan for years, now? How is this possibly news?

That China may put troops on the ground isn't exactly earth shattering, either.

The Chinese have been in country for a long time.

Hopefully. They can invade, and absorb the country into China for all I care. China can deal with terrorist like no other civilized western country can.
