Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
Dropped the wife’s mobile off to have the tires rotated and balanced along with an alignment. I have learned these are key to long treadlife and a properly working AWD and 4wd system. Save you lots of money in the long run. I have used the same place for the last 4 sets of tires because they have always beat the internet price I could find and they include lifetime balance and rotation. When I take them in for the balance and rotation I do not return to a nonsensical laundry list of things that must be fixed ASAP So I dropped the vehicle off at 9:30AM with no appointment as I would return when they finished. I called at 4:00 for an update just trying to plan for dinner and errands that needed to be done today coordinate pick up while I was out. Was told they were just getting ready to pull it in should be an hour or so. I said perfect as I had a couple errands to run and grab dinner and I’d be there before they close at 7. So we arrive at 6:30 to pick up the vehicle and they haven’t even started, mind you it is 6:30 and they close at 7:00. He said that they would finish it up. Sorry I have 3 kids in the car and am not going to wait or just drive around plus I don’t want a last minute rush job because the tech wants to get home on a Friday night. The gentleman was very nice and apologized and said he had no excuse for it not being done. Strangely refreshing in today’s world as folks want to make 3 million excuses for why they screwed something up. So I have a 9am appointment Sunday and the work will be free. Handled the screw up properly. I did not have to say anything, raise my voice and they properly remedied their error. Good way for them to keep my business on the next set of tires even if they may not be the lowest price like they usually are. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Everybody screws up from time to time. Mistakes don’t bother me near as much when the person owns up to it, apologizes and offers good ideas on how to atone. Sounds like the place did all three for you and they would keep my business too. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

I use this at work when I fuck up. I'd rather take my licks versus pointing fingers and misdirecting which is common. I'd rather turn it in to a learning session instead of a blame game. Whatever. People fuck up and make mistakes. Learn from it and move on. NRA Life Member Steak: Rare. Coffee: Black. Bourbon: Neat.

A habit of responsibility, being responsible for everything you are involved in, is a very good one to cultivate. No excuses. An apology when things do not work out but no excuses. The best way to have people relying on you is to deserve it. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I was raised to be responsible, You screw up, You take the metaphorical "beating". Three years into my career with the Highway Patrol I wrecked...and I mean totaled, a patrol car chasing some bad guys. It WAS a weird situation with firearms, an assault on another person, shots fired, then the pursuit on hazardous gravel roads. I had all sorts of excuses for the accident. But what bothered me, was seconds before I lost control, I KNEW I was in over my head and SHOULD have slowed down. The big day arrives and I am in the Colonels Office....This could be a bad deal for sure. When I closed the door behind me and sat in that chair across from the Big Man, all the excuses sort of melted away. He asked me "What happened"? My reply was; "Colonel, I screwed up. I knew better and should have listened to myself". Then he brought up a few of my good excuses; the guys had pointed a rifle at me prior to the accident, etc. I told him I had simply been going too fast for the road and knew better. The normal punishment for something like this was usually a letter of reprimand in the permanent file, and FIVE days off without pay. He tells me it is refreshing to not hear a myriad of excuses and that he respected me for my truthfulness. I got three days off without pay, but he allowed me to work a day off each week for three weeks to recoup the lost wages...And I truly needed the wages at that time. Years later I found out my letter of reprimand was more of a letter of commendation for my being truthful and NOT coming up with a mess of excuses. And if I didn't have any preventable accidents in three years my file was considered CLEAN. My Parents taught me to be honest and truthful... It certainly didn't hurt me in this situation.

Refreshing for sure. A simple I'm sorry means a lot. I do mostly electrical repairs and small electrical projects for a living. Everything has a guestimate of how long it takes, but you don't know how long it will take to fix something until it's fixed. Sometimes hours of trouble shooting for 2 minutes of repairs. I've learned most customers will be OK with delays as long as you tell them in advance. So if you have a 10-2 window and I know at 9:30 things aren't going well I will call and tell customers I don't expect being there until end of window or slightly after and they are free to go run errands or do whatever they have to do. They love the fact that they don't have to stay tethered to the house waiting for me even if I show up at 2:30 or 3:00 and thank me for the call even though I completely missed the original window. Sir, my four response are “yes, sir”, “no, sir”, “no excuse, sir” and “sir, I do not understand”. Sorry. This would have been a Quote for Today, but it seems to fit here. “Do the best you can do. Never tell a lie. If you say you’re going to do it, get it done. Nobody cares about an excuse. Leave for the meeting early. Don’t be late, but if you are late, don’t bother giving people excuses. Just apologise. They’re due the apology, but they’re not interested in the excuse.” – Charlie MungerThis message has been edited. I learned early that mistakes happen. However, if you own them, apologize, and immediately fix them without excuses what people remember is that you’re the guy who made things right.

I learned this lesson from my first boss. No surprise that he was a retired Army major. He was tough but always fair, and years later I realized just how lucky I was to have him as my first boss. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell
