The crew at work decided last week to have a carving contest today.
I did some web surfing over the weekend for inspiration. Here's my entry:
Let's see yours!
God bless America.

Just wanted to say nice job,
No picture for me, we don't carve them anymore in FL, a carved pumpkin in 80+ degree weather doesn't make it long...

Not this year, but my best.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown

For something different, back when we lived where there was activity on Halloween (i.e. not in the sticks), we would carve a couple watermelons to throw in the mix.
The look (glowing red inside a green exterior) always got positive comments. The rind isn't as durable as pumpkin rind, so they wanted designs without a lot of fringy details.

Nice one! You and flesheatingvirus must have put a ton of time into those.
We had an hour time limit... I think we all finished up in about 20 minutes, haha.
God bless America.

Thanks!
This one took about 45 minutes.
I did cheat by using three toothpicks. The hardest part was getting the rind cut in a way that it would wedge into itself.

This is what I did the year prior:

Been busy as can be at work, plus some other obligations. Mowed/bagged up leaf round two today after work. Tomorrow I hope to find a leftover pumpkin at the grocery store, forgot to grab one yesterday, doh. I got a fallback plastic one I hope I don't have to use. Got one giant bag of candy, thinking about grabbing one more 2 lbs bag for backup treats for the stragglers.

I've always been pretty partial to this one...
"If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
