A few months back I posted that my 17 year old was taking the EMT course. She passed and did very well on all her tests. Last night was her graduation. Tomorrow she will take her state certification which her instructors say is 50 questions less than her 200 hour course test. She took a half day off of school today after mid-terms and is studying for tomorrow. She can't respond on her own until she turns 18 in September. I'm very proud of her. Living the Dream | ||

Congrats to her and you both. I was a EMT in New Mexico from 1982 to 1988. And I'm especially impressed for her age, sounds very mature. At 17 I never thought of doing anything like that, I was 29 when I became a volunteer firefighter and the following year an EMT. When I took the class it was 81 hours for a Basic cert. My daughter passed her EMT stuff, worked in an ER as a medical tech, then intensive care, taught CPR, also worked the first aid booth at college games. One day at NCAA basketball quarterfinals the first aid booth got a call, cardiac arrest outside on the sidewalk. It was her first time doing CPR on a real person, "he had a very hairy chest". The second time for real CPR was at 36K feet over Tennessee. She is now dispatch for an airborne ambulance service. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. Thank you all for your kind comments. Sarah is hard headed like her mother. She said there are no if, ands, or buts, she is going to become a Neuro Brain Surgeon. Last summer and this past fall, she had been invited in to see surgery and she loved it. She is a driven girl, academics are top notch. I can't name all the clubs she is part of, usually in a leaders roll. Sometimes I think she pushes herself too hard. She tells me not to worry, later in life she will take care of me when I get too old to take care of myself. Rich Living the Dream | |||

Good for her. Will she be continuing her studies in EMS to be a paramedic? I was an emt for a little while prior to becoming a medic. She should continue on her education as the world is in need of people working in the medical field. | |||

Right now she has one more year of high school. The high school is an Academy of Math and Science. I don't know if she will get to be a paramedic before she leaves for college. So far we have visited Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth, Cornell, RIT, Stevens, Princeton and a few engineering Universities in NY State. As a freshman in high school she did community service at a local hospital in outpatient surgery, then on to the First Aid squad. Living the Dream | |||
