My Craftsman set went missing and I am tired of looking for it. Any suggestions for a basic set of screwdrivers{Both Phillips and Flathead}. Not for everyday use but to handle basic household repairs.
Thanks

Tekton has USA made sets at a reasonable price. I can’t give you a link but just google “Tekton black oxide USA made screwdriver set”.

These should be satisfactory.

I bought this set a couple of years ago, quite happy with the design and quality, well-ground hardened tips, comfortable handles, reasonable length shafts. Pretty much the first screwdrivers I reach for when anything needs twisting.

Lowes has a ton of Craftsman sets for the holidays. Pretty cheap and get the job done.

Tekton USA hard handles. They fit screws quite well and are reasonably priced. The handles are better than acetate too.

I replaced my screwdrivers with German made Wera…

Like these: https://www.kctool.com/wera-10...crewdriver-set-rack/

I also have their small socket set which has been incredibly useful; looks gimmicky, but it’s not.

And alternatively, you can go on eBay and replace exactly what you had generally.

Another consideration. If you truly are not into tools and just want a very convenient option for infrequent around the house use you might consider a multi-driver option that can be put in a drawer in the house. Klein makes a good unit available at HD and Lowes and something a little nicer like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7...TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

For fixed handle screwdrivers all of mine are mismatched cheap stuff at home.
I can't even remember the last time I used my Snap-On ones at work for what they were designed for.

For screw drivers, a nice 1/4" bit set with a ratcheting handle works out better for me.

I'd also recommend this approach.
I have a Snap-on version, left over from my days as a mechanic and use it for at least 95% of household needs.
A set of the inexpensive small screwdrivers for glasses and other small tasks takes care of the rest.
Something like this.

I really like the Wera and Klein. Wiha and PB Swiss are frequently recommended, as is Bondhus.

For whatever reason, I went with Vessel. Well, one reason was the JIS tip which I've found to be better than standard Phillips. The set I have may not be using as strong a metal as the Wera, et al. But for my casual uses, they've held up well. I got these:

Tekton is usually okay to buy. But I had these and they broke very quickly. I would not buy again.

The older I get, the more simply I'm trying to live and with less stuff. I don't have this exact model, but I find a multi-tool is a lot easier to keep in my tool bag.
