I'm considering cutting the cord, but every time I've considered College Football was the reason that I didn't. I also watch a little MLB (Tigers and Astros) as well as a little Outdoor TV.

I already have and will keep:
  • 300 Mb/s Internet connection
  • Netflix
  • Amazon Prime

I don't care about the following so please don't waste your keystrokes:
  • NFL
  • NBA
  • NHL
  • Broadcast TV
  • Movie channels like HBO, Skinemax, or Showtime.

Hulu Live is available in my area and it looks like it'd cover college football with NBC, CBS, ABC, 3 ESPNs, Big Ten Network, and SEC Network. It looks like it'd cover MLB with 2 Fox Sports,2 Fox Southwest, FS1, and FS2. The only thing I'd be missing would be Outdoor Channel which I could live without.

My smart TVs are too old (need to be 2017 or newer) for a Hulu Live App (both are limited to regular Hulu) so I'll have to get a Roku, Amazon Fire, or Apple TV.

Have any sports fans switched to Hulu Live? If so, are you enjoying the experience or having hang-ups, connection problems, etc?

Should I be considering a service other than Hulu Live?

Have you looked at YouTube tv?

We haven't fully investigated it yet as we have almost a year left on our comcast, but we watched tigers at a friend's house that had it and the lineup for sports looked pretty solid.

I just ditched Xfinity and got 2 Apple tvs, and subscribed to Hulu, on their premium plan-- $40. per month. Hulu is *great*. I too wanted to be sure about college football, and Hulu has it all well covered. They also carry FOX news, which is the only news I watch.

The best part was being able to tell Comcast to shove it. (On the inside. Outwardly, I just politely returned their equipment.)

I got rid of Verizon when my bill hit $230. per month-- for crap! About a year ago I switched to Xfinity at $160. per month for crap, and they kept pushing charges up and up, slowly but surely, until I hit $200.

    That did it.

I'm a Seinfeld fan and Hulu has every episode-- ten years worth. And I've been watching those great old shows-- Taxi, Cheers, even I Love Lucy. Still really funny. Unlike cable, I watch what I want when I want. At a savings of $60 per month.

Now I wish I could find an alternative internet provider in my area....

Were are pretty much the same in what we care about. Lol. I did YouTube TV during college football season last year. I really really liked it. I also did My Outdoor TV for my outdoor network shows. Just did it for a few months during Football/Deer Season and cancelled it. I will re-up in a month! So glad I cut the cord !

I bought a WatchAir that wirelessly sends OTA signal to my Apple TV or Fire TV. I also have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Sling TV. I cut my TV cost by $85 per month.

I went with Youtube TV and really like it so far (about a month with it). Waiting for hockey season to see how that goes, but from what I read, it should be good to go. I was pretty much between Hulu with TV and YTTV, but went YTTV. From my research, it seemed Hulu and YTTV had the most reliable streams, and seemed to score the best overall avg for what I was looking at. The main knock I seemed to find for Hulu was people didn't like the layout or interface or whatever it's called. Probably something you could get used to, especially if you are not accustomed to something else. One guy at work showed me his YTTV and it seemed really easy and intuitive, so I decided to go that route. Using base model Rokus on our 2 TVs and 0 problems. Even the Roku downstairs has been perfectly fine even though it's "far from the modem."

Thanks. My buddy that just switched to Hulu Live also mentioned YTTV.

It looks like viable options for me are:
  • $40/month Hulu Live
  • $40/month YTTV
  • $55/month DirecTV

SlingTV is out as they don't have the Big Ten Network and as y'all might have noticed I'm a fanatic about Big Ten Football.

We've researched it several times. But in order to get B1G football, we're stuck paying pretty much what we pay for DTV.

It's amazing how no matter where you go, you pretty much end up paying about the same when you need something non-standard like big10 channel.

Not to hijack the thread, but anybody who can share which of these options will cover SEC football I'd be interested in knowing for same reasons as OP.

Our only must-haves are SEC ball/ESPN and F1 racing. All else is optional-y

We cut the cord a while back. We have Amazon and Netflix for streaming movies. Our tv is pretty modern so it also comes with hundreds of internet channels. That's in addition to the rabbit ears I use that pull in about 40 OTA channels. Sports always seems to be the challenge to get without paying for a cable package or a service like Hulu. I don't know if the conference or NCAA websites allow for a streaming package but I'd check around. Maybe a network channel that often the games show up on, or maybe the College Sports Network?? Things are slowly changing and so maybe they'll be some options. My experience has been that finding Big Ten games can be challenging still.

A couple other ideas would be to find a local bar that shows your games and frequent it once in a while. Maybe hang out with a buddy who likes the games more often who has cable. Radio? I used to listen to the Packers games on the radio in Chicago. If you can live with watching on a phone/mobile device or PC you may have more options. Not sure if any carriers have a CFB package I remember seeing NFL packages for phones offered in the past.

I don't own a TV at all. Buckeyes football is watched about 6 miles down the road at my friend's bar.
I won't pay for cable or satellite TV. That's me tho.

I can't speak for the sports part, but of the 3 streaming devices you listed, I would recommend the Roku.

We've had a Roku3 now for going on 4-5 years and love it.

Sounds too good to be legal/ethical. The content isn't at least in considerable part pirated?

^^^ I was wondering the same. My LG has a few hundred IP channels but no US sports show up in my experience. I used to know of a way to stream certain sports via the EU but most of the time those websites would either spam you with endless ads or viruses.

We have Hulu live (and Netflix, Amazon) and cut the cord this year.

Here's the thing about "missing" shows. You don't really miss them, you just find new stuff to watch instead is all. College Football is specific, so if Hulu live meets that goal, than I say go for it!
