Nicky,
Thank you for the perspective. The situation on the ground there seems rough. Do you see any realistic path to a better situation?

BOHICA!!

Our VP is being charged for a hundred crimes and our beloved President had no better idea that go on TV saying he hopes the Prosecutor doesn’t commit suicide like the last one that went after her. A sinister statement.
Now she says that his words are hurting her case.

We are so fucked!

Hope the peso will not take another dive.

There’s absolutely no way out of this. Nothing is done without the self proclaimed peronistas. But they are just criminals every day but thosr when waving their flag is most convenient.

Maybe they’ll try to retake the Falklands, er Islas Malvinas, again.

Has there ever been a country that went down the path of socialism/communism and successfully reversed course? Not that I can think of...
Russia? Sort of, kind of...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I greatly sympathize with the Argentinian people who are feeling the boot of their self-appointed "leaders." One of my first bosses was an Argentinian (whose Italian family moved there after WWI), he had little complimentary to say about the ruling class back in the 70's.

I am not convinced that it is a specific political ideology that has caused this rather than the rampant greed (for money and power) that seems to infect those of all political perspectives once they attain positions of authority. We have been fortunate in the USA that our elected officials have managed to restrain themselves to a greater degree than in other countries. Perhaps the 2A has had some influence on that restraint?

How Argentina recovers from their current and deteriorating mess, I am not going to try to predict, but most of the times humanity has been subject to these woes escaping them is not a pleasant or pretty thing. This too is a common pattern found in history. I hope that Nicky and all the other worthy Argentinians get through it in reasonable shape.

Not sure if was worth starting a new thread or not. All very confusing.

Fact 1. Federal prosecutor want her condemned for a shitload of fraudulent charges while she was President. The list is long.
Fact 2. The time go get a firm conviction is measured in many many years but her supporters make it look like that would prevent her to be a candidate in our next presidential race. That is not correct.
Fact 3. A few of her neighbors started banging pots in front of her place yelling she is not welcome and should be punished with the full force of the law.
Fact 4. Her supporters first gathered at her place and facing the ones that want her gone. Minor disturbance followed by police intervention.
Fact 5. Government and City argue about local police presence and the wisdom of barricading the area to keep crowds, now hundreds of supporters willing to stay indefinitely, at safe distance. City police falls back and leaves VP free access to her supporters as per her own wishes and responsibility.
Fact 6. President declares he trusts his VP and that it would be a shame if the Prosecutor commits suicide like the last one who tried to bring her to Justice. Outrage follows.

What we know: A (single action) Bersa .32 cal was used. Gun had a loaded mag with 5 rounds, empty chamber and does not appear to be cocked on the video.
She never realized what was going on ( her eyes do not widen or focus on the gun) and bends because a book extended for her to sign falls to the ground.
The protection detail had its head so far up its ass that they never reacted. She was allowed to stay at the X spot for over 6’ and then enter her apartment.
Supporters realized what happened and seized the shooter and the gun, turning both to police custody.

Fact 7. President declared yesterday a non working day because of the failed attempt.

Our country desperately needs to work after the year we spent in strict lockdown. Uncontrolled inflation has those who work having serious trouble trying to make ends meet. The numbers of those who don’t work and live of Government support is huge and they demand more money every other day.
Not the time to stop working.
We had our share of tragedies in the past years and NONE of them was followed by a non working day by presidential decision.

Just my uneducated opinion.

Yeah I was singularly unimpressed with her security detail. Almost looked like a prearranged hit.

The specialized forensics unit that got hold of the perp’s disposable phone that allegedly had only 8 phone calls and two, one made before the attempt and another received right afterwards, inadvertently factory restored the phone.

Believe what you want. I am positive it was the Aliens.

O-O

I spent a little time in your country in the late 90's. I thought it was a beautiful country with wonderful people. It is a shame to see what is happening there now.

Looks more like a prearranged non-hit. Her security detail knew nothing was going to happen.

A cynical ploy to garner sympathy for "poor Cristina", further demonize the opposition and invigorate her supporters.

Me and my wife visited your country last year. I was impressed with all of South America (Chile, Argentia, only unfortunately). We were very impressed with Buenos Aries. It's too bad the country has evolved to such a state. We thought the Buenos Aries and the surrounding countryside were very beautiful and the people second to none.
