A friend changed numbers and I deleted the old number and added the new one. When I try to text him, the old number always shows up first. How can I get rid of it?

Click on his name in contacts, go to the top of the next page- hit edit, then scroll all the way down to delete it

Go to Messages and delete the Message thread with your friend. That probably still has the old number.

Do you have it backed up to the cloud.I have android on a work and personal phone and have had to go into google and delete ones depending how the contact was backed up.I would think Itunes does something similar.

Sorry, have not been ignoring you, just taking a long nap. One of the joys of bad weather and being locked down.

I believe he has an I phone and yes there is a blue "i" next to the old number.

I have deleted the old number from my phone and I have deleted any old texts in which he used the old number.

Thanks

Being retired, I know about naps Smile

No need to apologize. That was my fault. I mistook a follow-up from somebody else whose reply looked like it was from you.

Just as I suspected! </maxwell smart>

The problem is probably iMessage. It is both a blessing and a curse. There is something he needs to do on his end to fix that. Have him search on "change phone number in iMessage."

As long as the number is no longer in Contacts, the little blue i should appear next to it. Tap it and select "Remove from Recents".

What's happening is the number is still loaded in the Recents file, and is associated with the name. You have to manually purge it.

Do you have other devices sharing your contact list? Be sure the old info is deleted from all of them.

Also, make sure you don't have 'Ron' with multiple contacts, ie, Ron, Ronald, Ronnie, RJ, etc
