We bought a Vizio in November 2018 and it's been absolute garbage. I'm looking to replace it right now.

I"d buy it.

I just did a really fast quick search of under $300 Vizio at Walmart.

55 inch, is that big enough? $264 bucks.

2 hunnerd siddy fo bucks!

Heck Yeah I'll buy that. If it goes bad, well I've spent more $$$$ than that taking the grumpy woman out for dinner not and even getting laid, well at my age anyway so what.

Calculate your risk level.

I usually don't buy extended warranties, but buying this Vizio at $264 plus a 4 year extended warranty for $31, well that's still under $300 bucks.

I can afford to lose $300 bucks, it won't make or break my lifestyle one bit.

You mentioned is this good for long term? I guess that's a subjective opinion. Personally I don't usually care if my electronics last many years because after a few years I get the itch to update to newest best technology. That's just me.

LINK THIS ONE is the very 1st one I looked at, I did not even look at any other.

Best wishes to you Sir.

EDIT TO ADD: I am going to buy a new large-ish screen tv very soon. Right now TV's are the lowest price they've even been. I paid close to a thousand bucks in 1983 for a 19 inch Sony Trinitron. That's 1983 dollars.

Who knows what may happen. China may tariff the heck out of us, we may tariff the heck out of chinese goods. If so then prices will shoot up. Way up. I'm to get a new one in the next few days anyway. Might be a Vizio, but I'll probably buy at Costco. Better service, great prices, better customer services. Check out if your credit card company offers benefits for warranty extension.

I've owned a few Vizio and was not happy with their longevity. The largest was a 49", it took three before we got one that worked and that only lasted 3 years. Another was a 32", I went through two in 8 years, just stopped functioning. I've now got two TCL, so far so good but only a few years in. I have a 34" Toshiba CRT that is 20 years old, still has a great picture, never an issue.

Based on all you guys have said, its a pass on Vizio. LG/Samsung/Sony/TCL will be my search targets in the future and I will budget around $500 for a better TV. Ultimate goal will be a decent picture, intuitive interface and a 7 year lifespan.

Insignia has a better picture than TCL and uses the Amazon interface which I like far better than the Roku which TCL uses.

Insignia can be purchased and delivered from Amazon or picked up at Best Buy.
Their 55” 4K UHD LED is $230 and a great picture.

My oldest Insignia is like 9 years old. Only issue is the “smart” functions are slower than the rest.
It’s also a 32” that is in the bathroom. So lots of humidity and moisture.

My old kitchen Vizio is now used as a monitor.

It never had the picture quality of the Samsung that was bought around the same time.

With Vizio you get the quality you pay for.

LG and Samsung have better quality pictures.

If that is worth the extra money for you, go top shelf. They are not bad for the price.

I have a 1080p 42" Vizio "Smart TV" in the basement den. It used to be the main TV in our den. Cost around $500 when I bought it back around 2012-2013. It has been okay; the on-board software quit updating some of the pre-loaded apps and added apps over the last few years, but adding a Roku to the TV cured that. IMHO, it has been a good TV. I also have a 40" Sony and a 32" JVC that were given to me free by family members, which I added Roku devices to them, and a 55" Roku Smart TV I bought last summer. Overall, I don't watch TV enough to determine which brand is better than another.
