It's time to replace my well tank...the diaphram is leaking internally. I'm leaning towards purchasing the WELL-X-TROL (WXT) WX-203. They're not cheap, approx twice as much as the ones sold in the big box stores. The thing is...WXT makes the Water Worker brand that are sold in the big box stores but they're nowhere near the quality of the WX-203. I thought I'd check in and get some feedback from you guys before I order one tomorrow.

In my experience Well X Trol are the best of the bunch.

There are a lot of less expensive models and I've tried them many trying to save a buck. They all failed early on.

I have a Well X Trol in my current house that is 25 years old and still hold air and works as designed.

the Well X in my basement is well over 10 yrs old. They had to replace the pump because of lightning and I ask if we should replace the tank.. he said it has plenty of life left.

They are the only tanks I use here in my business. They are definitely a superior product.

A wx 203 is a pretty small tank. I would usually recommend a WX302. The key to a long lasting tank and pump system is to keep your pump cycles down and the pump run time when it cycles to as long as possible.

A draw down on a wx 203 is less than 10 gallons. As I recall more like 7 or 8 at a 30-50 pressure switch setting. That is not a lot. Especially if your pump is pumping more than the tank draw down in a minute.

There are other tank manufacturer's that make good tanks. I have had a Well-Mate for years.

I would "not" buy a tank for close to $300, espeically one that size that the dealer buys for less than half that. No way. They are not that much superior to all other tanks.

I had one in my former house - good after 20 years. Have one in this house - good after 18 years.

Anything Amtrol is top notch. No worries, buy it.

I'm currently limited to horizontal tanks which sucks... Sometime in the next year I'm going to put a shed on the back side of the house and move the pump and tank etc to there. No more going under the house for this old man.

Then I get to install a much larger tank.

If I decide to take temporary action before then is there any reason I can't plumb a second tank in?

The RP25 building pressurizer we installed far outlasted (it is still in service 23 years later) two RP10 pressurizers in other parts of the same building. Yes to reducing cycling.

Nope, you can add tanks in tandem if done right. Well-x-trol makes UG tanks that are designed to be buried and laid down. A wx 251 ug is a good sized tank. Around 62 gal. iirc

Well-x-trol is the only brand of tanks my dad sold in his business.

I picked the WX-203 because it matches the Water Worker HT-32B I currently have both in drawdown and dimensions.

I can't get close to $300 for a 203 or 302. Ferguson quoted me $485 out the door for the 203 with 1 to 2 day availability. Amazon is right at $400 plus tax.

That is outrageous for a wx203. No way in hell I would pay that. I would not pay half that.

I installed a WX-203 2 years ago. Replaced the decades old same model. Did my Dad's last year, his was 26 years old. I got the tank and a stainless fitting kit that came with a new pressure gauge, switch, relief valve, etc.

Current price is $420 shipped. I think I might have paid less than that. I know it was nice to have the whole installation tee setup.

They sometimes have specials, might be worth a call to see if they will give you a break....

I sold thousands of Well-x-trol pressure tanks. Granted it has been a few decades ago. The WX 252 at the time was the major seller. I sold them to dealers for well under $200 each. That was the predecessor to the WX 302. an 86 gal. model.
Yes, Amtrol is good stuff. But paying almost $500 for a wx203 is literally the craziest thing I have heard in decades.
