well I've been a Fender Strat owner for a few years and decided to take the plunge with some modifications my local guitar shop and instructor used to work for Seymour Duncan so I was able to get a deal on new pickups and strings... can't wait to hear the new sound - should have it this afternoon [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Sweet. Assume you are staying with single coil. I wonder how different they'll be from stock. What amp are you playing through?

Awesome. Post some pics when you get it done. I'm probably going for a S/S/H set up down the road for my el cheapo import Stat.

I have two small practice amps - a Line 6 and an Orange. One in my office and one in my living room - no need to drag amps around where and when I want to practice right? I can't wait to hear the difference. I am getting coils wound that should be identical to the coils in David Gilmour's black strat... I had been playing on 9's (the strings) but changed to 9.5 and am going back to 9's as I can't do a two step bend on the 9.5's - too much pain in my fingers from arthritis [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

I ordered a Warmoth strat neck to replace one with the frets worn down to nuthin. It's been 6 weeks, and I am still waiting. Fingers crossed. "Crom is strong! I refuse to put an amp in the bathroom other than that, just about every room in the house is an opportunity I like the new Orange Tube amp but at $2250 for the amp and $1100 for the speaker its a bit much I'd rather get an old Marshall if I ever get into regular performances [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Why not just get it refretted? I've had a few guitars recently refretteed with stainless and I absolutely love them. _________________________ You do NOT have the right to never be offended.

Many, many years ago I gave my oldest son my 1979 Fender Strat. I had a local guitar shop put in a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails Pickup in the bridge position. My son loved it!

Tune down 1/2 step may help that too. Capo first fret if you are jamming to your playlist.

so here's the 'Gilmour Set' the neck is an SSL-1, the middle is an SSL-1 RWRP and the bridge is an SSL-5 Custom wound the RWRP is a 'reverse wind reverse polarity' pickup so that if its the only pickup selected, then it tends to eliminate hum and behaves a bit like a humbucker Zip - if I use an alternate tuning, this would require that I buy another strat, so for most songs standard tuning it is - seldom enough time between songs to re-tune, so I fiddled with the string gauges to give me a wee bit more flexibility and less stress on my finger joints letting my guitar cool off a bit and am about to plug it into the amp and give it a go [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Gilmour used a lot of different guitars. For the recording of the solo on "Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2," he used an early 50s Gibson Goldtop with P-90 pickups. That was the only official Pink Floyd single. The Stratocaster was his main guitar over the years though.

RWRP will work in the in-between positions (2 and 4) where the middle pickup is on with either the neck or bridge pickup. Any single coil selected alone will not reduce 60-cycle hum. I have one of my guitars wired so the middle pickup is always on with a three-way switch instead of 5 so it's always humbucking. Well, except in the middle position with all three pickups on. I'm thinking of replacing the three-way with a two-way to eliminate the all pickups on position. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mark123,

Not many guitar threads on here, thought I would tag into this one. I'm really new, bought it a few years ago and got frustrated. I just want to 'have fun' right now. Found this video yesterday and am having a freeking blast! He's got a page on YouTube....I'm going to watch more and learn a few more 'fun things' to do before I get too serious. Today my kid told me I sounded better than yesterday....good enough for me! To add, what's with the Samurai Sword in the background?!? https://www.youtube.com/channe...Imwbck8ekvv63s0vxuGw ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Seymours are a bit too brittle to me in the neck position. It depends on what you like after it's in. I had them overwind a bridge p/u for me. It works perfectly. If the neck is too brittle, you may wish to try a DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Blues. Works for me. Again, it depends on what you're looking to hear. If you install yourself, watch the color coding. DiMarzio and Seymour use different schemes. Changing pick ups is unending fun. _______________________________ NRA Life Member NRA Certified Range Safety Officer

I've always wished that guitars had a standard pickup mount so that all you had to do was press the pickup into the mount, like putting a battery in. Imagine being at a guitar store and being able to easily swap between pickups until you find the sound you're looking for. Without all the disassembly and soldering.
