As they say in the Soviet Navy, "Nyet so fast, comrade."

One nuclear warhead per Great Lake (e.g, just part of a MIRV's load) and the entire fleet would be lost due to shock damage. Now, the enemy has to find the subs in a much larger volume, before single warheads can do that much damage.
