I must be getting old. My first thought was why is he bothering with a helmet and gloves if he's gonna ride in shorts and flip flops.

I've never had a proper MTB or a motorcycle, so a $9k bike is lost on me. Even at ur price , that's mote than my first two cars were worth.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

Soon you'll be able to programme your electric mountain bike go off on its own, zoom up and down mountains and fine panoramic vistas, take photos and make movies and stuff for YouTube while you stay safe at home, watching it all being relayed to your virtual headset by drone......

Good eye! Wink TRUST ME I fuss at him every single time he wears those stupid shoes on rides. I took the pic while we were riding around the neighborhood. If we are trail riding I make sure he has proper gear on. Unfortunately he has the same shoe size as me so he often wears my Shimano riding shoes on trail rides.

On the trails he always has proper gloves, shoes and always a helmet.

This is a pic of my race bike from last season. I managed one race win on it last season. Cool (I got lucky) It’s a Cannondale Moterra Carbon 3 powered by a Bosch CX Performance line Gen4 with the old style frame. I prefer the older frame over the new style due to its higher bottom bracket and metal bashguard/skid plate.

I picked this bike up used for $1000 (I basically stole it at that price) and proceeded to modify the absolute hell out of it.

List of Mods so far:
-RaceFace ERA carbon bars (40mm rise)
-RaceFace turbine stem
-RaceFace alloy chainring (soon to be swapped out for a 5DEV Titanium chainring)
-Fox transfer dropper post
-Marzocchi Z1 bomber fork 170mm travel (soon to be replaced by Fox Factory 36)
-Hope 155mm cranks
-Hope F20 pedals
-DT Swiss rear wheel
-SRAM AXS GX wireless derailleur/shifter
-Specialized Saddle
-SRAM gold chain
-SRAM XG 1275 10-50T cassette

It weighs 51.3 lbs with the 620W battery and should be sub 50 lbs with the smaller 500w battery. I have not weighed it yet with the smaller battery. The GasGas weighs 53.1 lbs.

Hey I get it stick. I’ve been on 2 wheels my whole life. 2 previous friends were big into the E bikes. I’ve ridden all flavors of them. They both have the expensive Specialized versions now. But you have to understand different strokes for different folks. I’m in the gym every week when I’m not injured. 4 day splits, every muscle. I train hard when I’m not injured and eat like a nutritionist. All so I can slide into that suit and whack that throttle open. Bicycling is done also, for cardio, as I’m not into bashing my knees into oblivion running. So the exercise part of it has no allure. I already do that on my own.

I have National Forest trails all around my rural land and have been on them extensively. I already have a CRF450X picked out as well as an ATV and SXS. Alpinestars came out with their off-road version of their airbag earlier this year and a new version for the suit that breathes 1000X times better than the past versions and I’m buying that over the winter when my funds allow. Been waiting for both to come out for years now. Outside of work, being on 2 wheels, well a big chunk of my life revolves around it because it’s my favorite thing to do. And I’ve been doing it for decades and nothing will change. The E bikes are cool. If they were less expensive I’d be game but when I’m spending that kind of coin I’m burning gasoline. It’s in the veins. Even my rural land was purchased for gearhead/motorsports reasons at the top of the list.

You’re absolutely right man. Different strokes for different folks. I probably do come across a bit too intense with my enthusiasm for e-bikes but this is because my experience with them has been so much fun.

My son and I finished first and second our first ebike race together. It was one of the best days I’ve ever had on two wheels and was TOTALLY unexpected. The whole ride to Greensboro NC where the race was held I tried to downplay expectations and prepare my son for a tough finish against a DAMN fast crowd in his debut race. Funny how it all played out. I’d hoped for a 1 & 2 finish in E-MTB but never expected it the first season.

I suppose it makes wild off bridge crashes and MIPS equipped helmet shattering crashes look tame during training. Eek

On the subject of CRF450’s have you seen the 500cc fuel injected two stroke motor from Europe that bolts right into a Honda CRF450? From what I understand it’s bolt on and plug in and play with ZERO fabrication work! Super interesting kit for the two stroke faithful like myself. If I could plate one of those I think my Moto collection would be complete (or so I say to myself) Big Grin
