Gene HillmanPropane summer fill
We just got our propane summer fill at $1.79 per gallon. We also buy additional propane to carry us through the winter at the same price. (prepay) We use about 1200 gallons a year unless there is an extended power outage and we need to run the generator. This price is about $.50 per gallon lower than last year.

That's about what we used to use.
As part of an exterior rehab I added 1" of XPS foam to the exterior of the house, and replaced the HVAC with heat pumps. This last year I only used about 500 gallons.

Did your electric use go up from using the heat pumps?

Yes, but not by much. Off the top of my head maybe $20-$30 a month.
In addition to the new system being higher efficiency, the XPS is R-5 over the existing wall insulation which is R-13 in the 2x4 walls, and R-20 in the few that are 2x6. Where is makes the largest difference is the elimination of thermal bridging through your studs. We also properly redid the house wrap taping it properly, including to the foundation, to prevent air infiltration.
