Pics of the fort to be posted later, I think I got some good ones.

Headed to Top Gun Supply. Big Grin

Anything else I should see this afternoon before I head back to Palm Coast?

I was in St. Augustine earlier this year and NOW I find out Top Gun Supply is down there? Dang, talk about missed opportunities.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

No offense to the owner, but you didn’t miss much. Decent shop, but not much to see.

There are some interesting stores and places to eat downtown, very touristy.

When you get back to Palm Coast, drive down to Ormond Beach FL (North of Daytona) to Florida Gun Exchange if you want to see a real gun store... 35 Miles south on 95..

https://floridagunexchange.com/

There's also a lot more things to do and places to eat in Daytona.

Thanks, HRK. Might head out there in a bit. Got back to Palm Coast, I’ll see what we’re feeling up to after lunch.

I used to get an email from him every once in a while. Not in years. Hope he’s well, but no idea what happened to him.

If you like good seafood, but especially fried shrimp, swing by O'Steen's

If you like some good flavored heat with your food, look for some minorcan clam chowder.

It's a tomato based clam chowder, seasoned with datil pepper(s), that are -I think - unique to that area.

If you like that type of clam chowder, which I do, you'll get hooked, as I did when I was down there a few years ago.

Th pepper itself is pretty hot, but the chowder I had wasn't crazy hot at all, just a nice heat and flavor. I know it's all subjective...

https://whatscookingamerica.ne.../minorcanchowder.htm

Edited to add; There's a small business run by 2 guys who "love all things datil".
They sell a great hot sauce year 'round, and fresh peppers when seasonal, which is now.
I've ordered from them before, and getting ready to place another.
BTW, I'm not affiliated to them in any way. Just 2 good guys who make/sell a great product they're passionate about.

Wound up going to a deli and got a nice French dip, then came back to my friend’s place and took a nap. I go through airport security in seven hours, so further exploration will have to wait for the next visit. I’ll upload pics when I get home tomorrow.

My limited experience so far is it’s not a bad place at all. Quiet, plenty nearby, equidistant from Jacksonville, Orlando, and Brevard County (spent much of late last week and the weekend visiting friends and family in Cocoa Beach), and St Augustine is a short drive from where my friend lives. I like it.

Stay away from Salt Life restaurant bar beach side, used to be good when they first opened not so anymore. One thing cool about the old village its constantly evolving. The restaurants are better, the Martini bar next to the Hilton is pretty good especially around the holiday times when St.Aug is lit up...Pretty diverse eateries...

I communicate with Doc Steve on a regular basis. He is doing fine. He spends his days tooling around with Dudley, his old blind rescue dog.

I love this stuff! I have a recipe and make it from time to time. The Datil peppers are a little hard to come by, and other chiles just don't have the same taste....
