PGTYes but you're paying a bit extra for a touch-screen. Spending $70 more gets you $50 off at checkout (listed promo) so might find an option either below that with normal screen or one with a bit more memory for over 500 and get the discount.
Generally speaking, I watch sale items at Costco and buy then; you know you're getting a quality item and terrific price.

HRKNot bad but there are three sub $500 with 1tb drives, one is a 17 inch screen, use the filters to drill down by price then drive, also get as much ram as you can...
Personally have no use for touch screen on a laptop.

old rugged crossI use a wireless mouse and keyboard now on this old hp laptop. I want to do the same on a new one. I know nothing about a touch screen. Can I use my keyboard and mouse with one?

Think of the touchscreen as you do the touchpad.
Generally speaking, most never will use it.
I would skip it and look for other things of value that are relevant to your use, like RAM, screen size/resolution or drive space, as already stated.

You can. I use a Lenovo Thinkpad issued from work. Mine has a touch screen along with a Trackpoint (that little red joystick thingy yo may have seen on Lenovo keyboards) When I'm on the road without a mouse the touch screen along with the Trackpoint is nice. Everything's nice and tight without a lot of reaching. You might not like or use the touchscreen so much with an external keyboard and mouse.

Timdogg6The HP that ORC mentioned I bought about 4/5 months ago for my son. I think I paid around 800 for it, it has been amazing.
My daughter has the previous version with about 12gb RAM and I think I paid 1700 for it about 2 years ago.
The only draw back is that it is heavy. Its not a commuter machine. But if you want a laptop at home that you carry occasionally go for it. If you need to throw it in a backpack every day, maybe not the best.

landownerDepends on your usecase.
The CPU is arguably the limiting factor for general usecases:
Intel® Core™ 3 processor 100U (4.70 GHz max, 10MB cache) 1.2 GHz base speed
6 cores
8 threads
Looks like a good deal, in terms of cost. If you're using this to surf the web, you can comfortably have at least 8 browser tabs active before it starts slowing down, or use MS Office efficiently. If you're doing video editing, consider adding a GPU with hardware encode/decode.
Potentially save money if you don't need a touch screen.
12GB RAM could on the low side, depending what you're using it for.

Yes, under $500, big 17 inch screen JMO a must unless you are travelling with it a lot, then a 15 inch is nice as it's smaller. For home use of a laptop, go big
