Unintended consequences; yet at the same time, very foreseeable consequences.

Only Starbucks management didn't see that one coming.

Yeah, if you thought this latest decision hilarious, just wait until they're forced to find a way to walk it back Big Grin

Who would have thought that going to Starbucks would be like riding on the city bus.

So much for their "upscale" coffee.

Starbucks Closing 150 Stores After Losing Money Due to 'Anti-Bias' Training

Starbucks announced Tuesday that it is closing 150 of its U.S. stores in the next year, three times as many as the chain normally closes in that time period.

“While certain demand headwinds are transitory, and some of our cost increases are appropriate investments for the future, our recent performance does not reflect the potential of our exceptional brand and is not acceptable,” Starbucks Chief Executive Officer Kevin Johnson said in a statement.

In May, Starbucks closed all of its more than 8,000 U.S. stores for an afternoon so that their employees could participate in “racial bias training” following an incident in Philadelphia in which a store employee called the police on two black men who were arrested for trespassing.

Starbucks Chief Financial Officer Scott Maw reportedly acknowledged that the incident “had an impact” on the low same-store sales growth rate of 1 percent expected for the quarter beginning next month.

"In this last quarter, we had an unplanned initiative related to the incident in Philadelphia that culminated in closing stores," Johnson said on a call from the Oppenheimer Consumer Conference, according to CNN.

"It is not an excuse," for the 1 percent growth rate, Johnson added.

Outgoing Starbucks chairman Howard Schultz acknowledged at the time that the racial bias training closures would cost “tens of millions” but that he saw the closures as an investment in Starbucks employees.

Starbucks plans to improve its food options and shift from sugary drinks to "lean into more plant-based beverages."

"We're putting more of our energy into that afternoon day part and the portfolio of beverages that are offsetting some of the declines we're seeing in Frappuccino beverages," Johnson said.

"certain demand headwinds are transitory"

Wow. Got to remember that one for future use.

All this latest nonsense from Starbucks sealed the deal for me. I stopped all the chain coffee store purchases and beans/ground coffee with any of their names on the bag. I signed up for the monthly delivery service from Black Rifle Coffee and couldn't be more pleased so far.

It's great to have a non-liberal option.

"lean into" it? Douchebag.

So, you're gonna be a combination juice bar and homeless shelter, then? Carrot juice and overpowering body odor. Sounds great.

It's pretty obvious Starbucks' management didn't understand exactly what product they were selling. (Hint: It wasn't coffee. Or even vaguely coffee-like drinks.)

Seems Starbucks announced a mere 1% growth in comparable store sales in the coming quarter, the lowest performance in the past 9 years. And they will be closing 150 stores in the US this year, three times more than normal.

Hmmm, might there be a connection??

There is, but it won't matter. Either they won't see it, they will not recognize it or other agenda have greater priority...

Starbucks closing down 150 stores, meanwhile every Dunkin Donut I go to has a line out the door and cars 10 deep in the drive through each morning. Freaking idiots.

There are a couple of Tardbucks near us; I never seem to see more than a few people in them at a time. I don’t understand the appeal of overpriced coffee when I can make the same thing myself for a lot less.

They should start selling MD 20/20 and Wild Irish Rose at the low performing stores, that would be a hoot watching the clientel coming in.

Yeah, for some reason, the number of newer Dunkin Donuts store seem to be popping up all over, look busy too. I think a good number of those Starbucks customers are doing Dunkin.

I don’t think it’s necessarily for donuts either, coffee drinks & minor food items.
