Politicians should have to face a shitstorm for racist/offensive behavior. They can and should be held to a higher standard.
Entertainers?
They can just be ignored.
It's a waste of time/energy to boycott or demand their removal. I don't care if that entertainer is on the left or right.
These days, it is a good idea to remember you can actually choose what to be offended by.

Oh bullshit.
I can't stand Bill Maher, but guess what? HE'S A COMEDIAN!!!!
Comedians, the good ones anyway, make fun of everybody. Why? Because we used to be able to laugh at ourselves. Here's an idea - let's get back to that. Unless, of course, you want to wallow in self pity and to be offended just by getting up in the morning.

Nothing new for Bill. I don't expect either side to be surprised. When you're a liberal comedian, you can say such things. Nothings shocking.

Awfully fast and loose with the term "COMEDIAN", eh Gustofer? Maher is nowhere NEAR a comedian. He's a pompous ass. Nothing more, nothing less. He and Samantha Bee can go fellate themselves...repeatedly.

Comedian, eh? Fooled me. He most times seems to fancy himself a political pundit, but then throws out the comedian shtick when he wants to be crude.

Maher is a bitter, immature little fellow, but since he's one of favored NAZIs, he will probably get a pass on this.

Thanks for posting that SNL video. I hadn't seen that one in quite some time. Chase and Pryor were hysterical. God I wish we could all get back to that point and enjoy a good laugh for a change.

The difference between that SNL video and Bill Maher is the video is funny, and Maher isn't, hence he isn't a comedian, just a racist hack.

I never called him a racist. And I'm not offended at all by what he says. What he does though is always try to have it both ways. I find him extremely tiresome nowadays.

I never watched his show but agree, comedian or not, the liberals made rules their way.The left would have shut down the show if it was a conservative saying that and would definitely go after them, even if it was years later. I think it is foolish but I say let them eat their own and die by their own sword.

When comedians see themselves, and tout themselves, as shapers of public opinion then they need to be held to the same standards they espouse. There's no reason to let them off the hook when they make careers out of taking sides.

So free speech to entertainers and none for politicians. Got it.

This sums it up best. If he was just a comedian it would be one thing. But this asshole stoner proports to be some kind of quasi political analyst in a lot of his actions. Ignoring his indiscretions comes at our peril.

Entertainers and politicians hold the same roles?
You seem confused between having a right to free speech, and being accountable for that speech.
You can change the channel on Mayer. Does he have the same impact as Ralph Northam? No.
There are things to get upset about. Comedians and entertainers are waaaaay down the list from people who are elected and payed by tax payers to run the government.

Bill Maher is much less a comedian than a wannabe political pundit. When he gets called on his outrageous statements (like hoping the economy crashes so as to make Trump a one-term president or even drive him out of office before that), he then falls back on "just being a comedian." His way of having it both ways.

In Maher's dreams, he'd be as influential as Jon Stewart. It was disturbing to see how many fools took "The Daily Show" to be a valued source of information, maybe even THE source for them. Maher doesn't have that reach but he's not operating in a vacuum. He may well be doing more damage than Northam.
