I've made a personal decision that if it's happening in Seattle or Portland, I simply don't care. Burn the entire city to the ground and have mass mayhem reign everywhere, I no longer care. Seattle and Portland (and likely the state) are gone at this point. No sense spending any more time trying to fix anything.

Whats next...(if this passes) - citizens get charged with assault for preventing these loons from trying to steal or vandalize their property??

Careful, they did that in a couple of the larger (population-wise) Oregon counties. They ended up with an expensive mouth to feed whose technical solutions were not in line with the needs of the SO.

Unfortunately, King County “citizens”, driven by the population of Seattle proper just voted to turn the County Sheriff into an appointed position (by County Exec and Council) instead of an elected one.

County Council is a body of nine, four of whom are from Seattle and the Exec is total lefty/anti LE. Essentially, the city will now control the County Sheriff, even though pretty much the only thing the Sheriff does in the city is process service. Also passed were a couple of “charter amendments” that let the council decide what the SO will focus on and how the will enforce laws.

Took all of two weeks for the council to announce “shifting” almost $5 million from the Sheriff’s budget to “funding new investments in programs designed to reinvent the criminal legal system, prioritize anti-racism and provide alternatives to policing.”

That is effectively a cut of about 30 Deputies. Talking about shutting down specialty units such as Marine unit, Air support (only police air assets in King County) and more.

Most of the cities in the REST of the county (SO contracts with 13 cities for police service) and the unincorporated residents aren’t real keen on what is essentially a take over of the SO by the city of Seattle.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I’m shocked! Oh wait, no I’m not. The greater Seattle area has been waging war on lawfulness for a while now. It really kicked off when they legalized pot. It drew a bunch of dopers to the area. Then they decriminalized small quantities of drugs, bringing in all the tweakers from across the country. But of course those tweakers and dopers need their fix, but jobs are hard, and get in the way of getting high. The only logical thing was to ignore property crime. That way the dopers and tweakers can leisurely take all the food and booze they want. Whenever they need a fix they just have to go somewhere fancy and steal something expensive to pawn or trade. Now they are just finishing off those pesky police, not that they could do much to begin with.

I don't know why humans have to forget the past and go far left only for it to fail.Swing back to law and order and then 50 years later far left failure again.

We will never learn?

Sand Diego, Lost Angeles, San Francisca, Portfu*k and Seatoast are on the same downward arc but in various stages. Blue states, blue government same result.

KCSO is now appointed. Good luck with that King County.

Lets not forget where it all started. Minneapolis!

quote:
Monday, the Minneapolis City Council Budget Committee approved amendments to the proposed 2021 budget from the Safety for All Budget Plan that was proposed by a number of council members.

The amendments would redirect $7.77 million meant for the police department to "other approaches to preventing violence and building community wellbeing."

The idea that the police "defunds" will go to actual workable programs I think misses the point.

Democrats love social programs because democrat polticians can corruptly divert the funds to the people that fund their campaigns, along with giving kickbacks.

We need a big program to help the poor! That really means, we need a big chuck of money we can dole out in political patronage to get kick backs to line our pockets. None of the billions of dollars in block grants has ever changed much. None of the revitalization money has revitalized anything.

Cities improve when LE enforces laws and citizens move into bad neighborhoods, fix up homes, and live in them. My uncle did this in Brooklyn near Park Slope and probably has increased the property value by more than an order of magnitude. Re-gentrification is the only thing that works.

But Seattle is railing against re-gentrification. Why? Because safe neighborhoods with middle and upper middle class homeowners can't beg for grants!

Defund police, squander funds for social services on patronage payoffs. After no improvements occur, demand more money and grants. Repeat ad infintum.

At the expense of saying "everything I learned about inner city police, crime, politicians, and democrats I learned from 'The Wire'..." Politicians and "ministers" keep the police from actually getting a case on the drug dealers by sandbagging them, politicians take bribes from the drug dealers in exchange for steering block grant money to properties the drug dealers have bought up. Drug dealers make a killing (literally) on their newly valuable real estate assets, kick back more money to politicians. Maybe it's not quite real, but I think it's a closer depiction of reality than anything else I've seen. The fact that it even got on the air on HBO is a small miracle.

And the democrats are creating lawless cities with attacks on police, bail "reform", decriminalization of larceny under $1000, decriminalization of hard drugs, and what have you. Then when it all goes to hell, they will beg for grants for more and more social programs which they will continue to pilfer.

It's all a racket, nothing more. None of it is intended to accomplish any good results. It's just a way to keep the money flowing in...
