My wife and I took a little trip that required 3 seperate Delta flights. We checked 2 bags and inserted Apple Airtags in each. One of the flights took us through LAX the day before Super Bowl. Chaos. On the 'Find Me' App I could see our bags came with us. The next flight took us to Tucson. When we landed, I could see our bags didn't travel with us. They were still in LAX. The 'Find My' app on my iPhone clearly showed their location. The dude sitting next to me was somewhat surprised I could do that. Airtags are about the size of a nickel and have a huge range via some magic.

The airline admitted the ground crew at Delta in LAX only loaded 5 bags onto the plane before the conveyer broke. Even though, the plane was 2 hours late in leaving, they said 'Screw it', and didn't bother to find a different conveyer.

Oh and then, once we all comfy in our seats, the pilot came over the intercom and said, in the immortal words of Cousin Eddie, "Shitter's Full" and we all got to leave the plane while they pumped the toilets. (He didn't say it exactly like that)

Two hours late and they couldn't get the luggage on board. There were some very unhappy campers when we got to Tucson. In fact 2 Police Officers were required to calm down a guy who admittedly drank too many tequilas on the way down. Our 2 bags arrived about 24 hours after we did. At least they took them to our hotel.

On the 'Fly Delta' app, it shows you where your bags are; checked in, on the plane, in baggage claim.

Won't show if they're in someone else's car though Big Grin

I’ve found that the more important the meeting, assignment or training I’m flying to the more likely my luggage will be lost or delayed. Which has lead to suits getting stuffed into carryons.

How close will AirTags lead you to something? Like if I left my keys somewhere in the park will it lead me right to them?

Are Airtags weatherproof?

I have two outside farm dogs and am very curious where they go during the day!

Thought about it for my dads car keys, fobs are not inexpensive, the likelyhood is he put them some where in the house so they would just tell them they are at the address but not so specific as to where in the house.

Still interesting product, theres also people who are using them to tag their partners cars, purse etc to track them, suspicious wifes or husbands, ex's etc. So there are privacy issues that are coming up, and soon, laws...

I think you must be doing something wrong, every thing I've seen about them talks about how extremely precise they are at locating things, especially as you get closer to it.

Do you see a structure like a barn nearby?

They will be there or in your bed.

I don’t think Airtags will work very well for this unless a lot of folks are on your property with Apple enabled devices.
Airtags aren’t GPS units they essentially ping off every Apple device in the area to give a location.

So a Garmin GPS collar (granted far more expensive) or even an AMCREST GPS tracker attached to a harness will work better for this.

I used the Tile version of the same technology probably 7 years ago and you used to be able to make the tile ring so you could find it if close. I’m sure many years later the Apple tags are capable of the same.

Probably so, have to test them, not sure how many iStuffs are connected near his place, most likely I'd get a notice its at his address.

Right now with Find Iphone you may or may not get an accurate placement depending on multiple factors.

I recently flew to Palm Beach for a little R&R and used my new AirTags to follow our bags as well. Very happy and easy to use.

In fact I have hidden one in our Porsche in case someone decides to steal it (Spyder Convertable).

I've got https://dfencegps.com/

Came with the Bronco Sport but if I ever decide to ditch it, I'll look into the AirTags.

And, I'll look into them for when I travel for my checked bags.

It depends. "Precision Finding" is a feature that is able to nail the location, um, precisely.

Precision Finding works with iPhones that have the U1 chip. That would be the iPhone 11 or newer. Doesn't work for me nor for my wife; we each have an iPhone X, so no U1 chip in the phone.

I was thinking about getting a couple for my carryon and backpack next time I travel.

I almost always carry on and only gate check if the overhead can't fit the carryon (EJR 145's for example are not great for storage).

But in the event I have to check would be helpful. And then in other countries, it would be pretty good for security.

The precision find only works after you get within approximately Blue Tooth range at best, but once it switches to "precision find" the accuracy, according to the instructions I read, is down to 1 1/10 of a meter... so 3 or 4 inches. Is that close enough?
