Gerald Ford was ridiculed in the BS media after he proposed statehood for Puerto Rico, at least that was the excuse. *(Originally it was just “Taxation Without Representation” and most people didn’t seem to understand what that was referring to. I knew immediately what it referenced, but if anyone had asked me for an explanation I would have just said that it described the people whom we send to Washington. They tax us, but don’t represent us very well.)

I'd be sympathetic, but the District was created and has always been maintained as an apolitical workbench for the Federal government. It seems to me that if you decide to live on a workbench (and that's often because someone is an nth-generation federal employee, not because of some kind of commitment to "the community"), then you accept that you live on a workbench. It's all too easy to cross a bridge and have yourself two senators and a congressman as a citizen of Maryland or Virginia, and it wouldn't be utterly impossible to be a citizen of Pennsylvania or Delaware if that seemed preferable.

DC was created from parts of Maryland and Virginia. The Virginia part was returned and became the city of Arlington. All the ideas for making DC a state include a “Federal Zone” that would include the Capital, White House and the federal buildings. In effect, the concept of a federal city would remain but shrink. There’s no reason the rest of DC could revert back to Maryland. However, Maryland likely would be happy with a huge voting block of DC. The socialist will never go for this. They want a state to have two more socialist senators and at least one socialist Congress critter.

DC is the location of the Capitol, and should not be a State. If the people living in DC (there shouldn't be any, IMHO) feel disenfranchized, then they should be allowed to vote in Maryland.

Sorry I was unclear (and missing a word). What I meant is that there is no way that they’ll all wake up. The best we can hope for is that a critical mass of the Dims will wake up and throw the commies out of their party. That may be almost as ridiculously optimistic as expecting that Leftist will come to their senses. We can hope, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
