Bought a bunch of Redbreast 12yo just after it was introduced as I was an instant fan. That $42.25 price for South Dakota with its high liquor tax was a bargain back then. I'm down to my last unopened bottle.
Much more recent is the $74.99 price on the 2013 B1/13 cask strength I've saved. They both are much much more expensive these days in these parts.
FWIW The cartons obscure open bottles of Redbreast 12yo and Redbreast cask strength along with Balvenie Doublewood.

It looks like my local ABC liquor store has some of them. It looks like after I am done putting sod down in my yard tomorrow we will be making a trip to the liquor store.

Paddy314There have been many great suggestions already made. I would add to the list, Red Bush. Bushmills aged in sherry casks. Really smooth, nice soft finish. I’ve never had anything quite like it. I like it neat. Perfect after dinner.

goose5Can't help much with the Irish stuff. From what I've had my favorite is Bushmills. Scotch I can help. Judging from your criteria listed I highly recommend Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. Port cask finish that has almost a sweet cognac finish. Aged 14 years and at a decent price point. One of my very favorites.

Yes the Glenmorengie Quinta Ruban is an excellent Scotch.
I bought a bottle of it when someone in one of my Scotch questions recommended it. I do like it a lot.

The Powers Gold Label is a good mid level offering or the Bushmills Black Bush is a good entry

MikeinNCForgot to say, I drink my whiskey with a little water or a half a handful of crushed ice...don’t usually drink mixed drinks anymore...sodas and mixers just are too sweet and ruin a good whiskey.
Im gonna have to try some of that Whistler....I’ve seen it at Specs.

Lt CHEGI think Jameson black barrel is the Best Buy in Irish Whiskey. I’m also a huge fan of Red Breast at a higher cost and Jameson 18year is like liquid gold as is Middleton. I think Teeling is outstanding as well. If I had to recommend a single Irish Whiskey at a good value, Jameson Black Barrel would be it, while if money is no object the flip a coin between Middleton and Jameson 18 year.

farmanI was a plain old Jameson fan until the first Caskmate came out. Then all the Caskmate "barrels" confused me and I didn't want to by something that tasted like a swamp. Which of the Caskmate "barrels" taste like the original?

My number one investigator(my wife) looked at several of your suggestions and came up with Bushmills Red Bush to try. I will try just about anything but my wife can be a little picky. She thinks most Bourbons taste like gasoline, this is also coming from someone who likes Scotch and Tequila neat.
Since we have never tried Irish Whiskey we thought we would start with some thing not very expensive that some had recommended.
If we like it we will look at the other suggestions you have offered.
We will let you know how we like it when we try it, hopefully tonight.

The cheap bourbons sort of do, and I am a bourbon drinker.
