or iBooks. (I got the iBooks version for $5 and wrote down the ones I like and filed them in my recipe box.)

Anywho, I've been a fan of bone broth since I was a kid slurping up a bowl of grandma's goodness. Back then it was all about the flavor...and it still is, but nowadays it's also about nutrition. This stuff is packed full of glucosamine, chondroitin, protein, vitamins, and minerals. A veritable meal in a cup.

I've made it in the past, and sometimes it turned out as it should and sometimes not. The flavor was always good, but more often than not, it wouldn't become gelatinous as it should, and as I understand it that is because the proteins became denatured.

Well, no more. This little book tells you everything you need to know about the benefits of, and how to make, quality bone broth. And damn if it ain't good stuff.

The other day I made up their "hearth broth" recipe which is a chicken, turkey, beef broth and it was/is phenomenal. I now have a gallon of that stored in the freezer. Yesterday I finished up some chicken foot broth (Used up my last 7 lbs of chicken feet...looks like I need to grow more this spring) and it was/is better than phenomenal.

If you like to cook, prep, eat healthy, etc..., get this book.

Loooooong simmered meat with bones of whatever critter you choose. The gelatin is cooked collagen which is really good shit.

Meh, bone broth=fortified stock. Not as "nutritious" but just add gelatin to broth if you are pressed for time. Anytime you can simmer bones and connective tissue low and slow even without other ingredients "your patience will be rewarded".

You could. But if you want to go old school, have better flavor/nutrition, and not waste any part of the animal, this is much better.

I just really enjoy this kind of stuff and the "reward" is great.

Or the "elbows"/tips off of chicken wings. But you need a whole lot of them. I usually do not keep enough of them to make enough for a batch of stock. But on game days when I make myself some wings I can make a cup or two of "yummy" juice for the dog. If I cook them slow and long enough she gets chicken flavored jello over her food for the next few days. No need for expensive joint pills as she ages.

I had a colonoscopy today-- about which I will say nothing more-- but if you've done it, you know that the prep is the worst part. For one thing, yesterday I had to fast all day. I started off drinking Gatorade, and by 3 pm, I felt not only hungry, but weak... draggy. I remembered that I had some beef bone broth, so I opened that up and warmed up a cup. Almost immediately, I not only felt less hungry, but I felt a LOT better-- stronger, more energetic. I finished the day on bone broth and decided that from now on I would include it in my regular diet-- in place of a cup of coffee in the evening, or in the afternoon. Great stuff.

Recently bought an Insta Pot. Slow cooked a whole chicken during the day. Deboned it and added some carrots celery and etc and filled with water and slow cooked about 10 hours. Strained it and put into mason jars. The tiny leftover rib cage was about the only thing left that resembled the chicken

Dr. Cate Shanahan's Deep Nutrition also has a good section on broth. When you can, buy meat on the bone.

Bon Mot for the scorning of Tom Brady!

As mentioned above, if you simmer chicken bones (feet) or beeve/porcine bones for a couple of hours the collagen migrates out the bones into the water. While the broth is warm it is liquid like water, but more dense. When refrigerated then the broth solidifies like gelatin (Jello-tm).

Although I do favor the making of9 homemade bone broth the process is a throwback to the time before 'store-bought' and the metering of every draw of electric current.

You only need to put the veggies in for the last 2-3 hours.

Ugh, I hate this trendy new term.

It sounds SO unappetizing to me. "Bone Broth"?

What happened to calling it "stock" or "broth"?
