Far too little info to speculate on whether or not it was legit self defense, though I'd think he'd still be in serious trouble for illegal possession of firearms.

Felon in possession times 2?

He's going away on those charges.

The property damage misdemeanor is a pile on charge.

The fact he did not report the "self-defense" shooting has to do with his felon-can't-have'-guns status. Its interesting to wonder if he can legitimately claim a 5th Amendment protection defense to the second charge. The D felony, not so much.

He'll plead and go to prison. There will be a sentencing recommendation from each side. If it stays in state court, he'll be in for a couple years. If the feds pick it up, probably longer.

here in NY, he would serve a minimum of 5 years for just one illegal firearm, I would imagine quite a few more for additional charges.
