I'm glad the Feds discovered and seized the shipment, not the locals. The Philadelphia DA "Let 'em loose" Larry Krasner would have them out on the street in no time. He is absolutely the worst, most incompetent, pro-criminal and anti-cop district attorney in the country.

Well I guess Charlie Sheen’s private party is cancelled this weekend.

I guess since eradication has stopped in Colombia that there’s a large increase in supply. Why not save a few dollars by shipping and buying in bulk.

Maybe that's the standard size for shipments these days. Wouldn't it be weird if our perceptions are behind the times?

Why not? It seems more efficient than smaller quantities. Also, how do we know that 10 shipments of this size don't get through port for every one seized?
Sure it's a score for the DEA, but probably changes nothing.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

The important lesson is that the cartels are not refining coke in small jungle labs.

That quantity requires special equipment just to move it around.

A decent lab can produce 500 kilo in a day. This seizure is about an entire months production from one of these labs and has a “wholesale” cost of somewhere in the $25,000,000 range.

I don’t think the production is that impressive, but the fact that it was a single shipment is.

good report on this topic:

https://philadelphia.cbslocal....federal-sources-say/

Investigators believe there is still a significant amount of cocaine remaining on the ship.

Two people were arrested and federally charged. According to the criminal complaint, Ivan Durasevic, the ship’s second mate, and Fonofaavae Tiasaga were arrested in the bust.

Before coming to Philadelphia, the Mediterranean Shipping Company ship was previously in the Bahamas, Panama, Peru and Colombia. The ship was on its way to the Netherlands.

According to the complaint, Durasevic admitted his role to authorities in bringing cocaine onto the vessel after being offered $50,000 by the chief officer.

Durasevic told authorities the cocaine was loaded onto the ship after leaving Peru. Tiasaga told authorities that six boats approached the MSC Gayane during the night, while Durasevic operated a crane to bring bags of cocaine onboard.

The ship was later approached by another eight boats, where more cocaine was loaded onto the ship, according to the complaint. Tiasaga told authorities his role was to help in moving the drugs below decks.

The 16 tons of cocaine were found in 7 shipping containers

imagine 16 pallets with one kilo bricks stacked and squared about two and a half feet to three feet high....

or imagine 16 large sized ottomans in your living room...you could probably stuff them all into a small spare room...

Yes, but let’s add some volatile fuel to the fire. You just know we have intel on high level cartel members. Start putting their names in certain circles south of the border and wait for the highway overpasses to fill up will ornaments.

Exactly. These cartel folk are a suspicious lot; wouldn’t take much information to get heads rolling if it appeared legit.

It's true story time again.

Back in '92/'93 I did some contracting work in Santiago Chile for the Carabineros de Chile, the Chilean national police. We were subcontracting to IBM World Trade. I enjoyed myself immensely and found the officers of the Crabineros to be highly professional and very dedicated. After work one day, over a beer or two, I got into a conversation with my IBM representative and the Carabineros Captain I reported to. The topic turned to Chilean politics and the coup d'état that ousted the elected president, Salvador Allende, with General Augusto Pinochet back in 1973. The Carabineros took an active part in the coup and Pinochet was still in power. The Captain responded that the Carabineros had to support the coup because they discovered that Allende had an agreement with Castro's Cuba to ship cocaine to the US. Castro was hurting for hard currency so the Cubans were going to transport large quantities of cocaine from Columbia through Peru and into Chile. In Chile the cocaine would be secreted into shipping containers bound for the US.

We know Cuba is still hurting economically and the current president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, is left leaning. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to discover that this cocaine will lead back to Cuba.
