Because the people that believe in these stupid things can't handle geometric figures more complicated than a triangle.

It's remote enough that public services aren't readily available, and there aren't a bunch of nanny-state regulations and oversight to protect you from yourself. If you're lazy, stupid, or just downright unlucky, there's a good chance you're going to die.

The people who live up there outside the cities are as hard and resilient as the environment they live in. They work constantly in often miserable conditions, and have to have the skills and equipment to get stuff done for themselves. I love it there, and if I could find a way to move up there while affording to live and support my family, I would.

They are trying very hard to bring us the nanny state. The FNSB (Fairbanks Northstar Borough) "banned" new wood burning devices a few years back and now the state Dept of Enviro Conservation is involved in this fiasco as well as the EPA. Luckily for us so far the FNSB has zero enforcement power. What they can do is essentially put a lien on your house so that it cannot be sold with the wood burning stove installed. Because of reasons. Too much particulate in the air during inversions. Omnipotent moral busybodies.

Are you serious? Banning wood burning stoves in freaking Alaska of all places? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. On the other hand, how are they going to know if you put a wood stove in your house?

Is that just Fairbanks or is it a statewide thing? Two summers ago I spent a week stacking wood in Glacier View to keep the boilers going through the winter at the camp we were working at...so they were definitely burning wood!

Even down here in Indiana we don't have rules like that. We just put one in at our house in December.

This is like saying the same number of people over the same amount of time but

between
San Diego CA,
and Vancouver BC,
and Elko NV.

So basically the entire populated West Coast, plus Nevada.

But with no roads between Vancouver and Portland, then a two lane highway from Portland to Bakersfield, and no connecting roads east or south of that.

Big Grin LMFAO! You need to leave that job and go to Hollywood, and just put up with it, and write. I would suggest NYC for SNL, but that’s New York Mad

Gosh, I'm surprised they missed the Alaskan Dark Pyramid in all of this. I mean it's right in the middle of the triangle and all. Maybe something to look forward to in season 2...

And cold temperatures, extreme terrain, pissed off moose, white water rivers, glaciers, stupid tourists, no cell service, no Starbuck's on every corner, high winds, reality tv shows inspiring idiots to move here, meth, legalized weed, high rate of alcoholism, wolves, coyotes, and rabid porcupines.

Are you referring to the structures at Clear Air Force Station? I'm unable to post a photo, do a search.
