It's not the dumbest thing I've ever heard on the subject, but it's up there.
Security believes chocolate bars are C-4. Who'd have guessed?
No, the dumbest thing ever heard on the subject are your uninformed remarks.
What's the old saying? It's better to keep your mouth shut and be though a fool than to open it and remove all doubt?
You removed all doubt.

Food items, like cheese or chocolate, can be mistaken by bomb-detection machines for explosives and generate a "false positive." TSA screeners will hand-search bags that register a positive reading.

sns3guppyUninformed? Really? Okay, brightspark.
You go ahead and cart your chocolate bars through security and feel like a secret agent if that's your walter mitty fantasy, and if it makes you feel like you're hauling C4 into a secure area.
Your bag might get searched, you say? Good god. The sky really is falling.
I take it back. Your comments may actually be the most stupid thing I've heard on the subject, after all.

I like it. I show the world that you expound on things you know absolutely nothing about and you try to bluff your way out of it.
And no, you demonstrating your ignorance is the most stupid thing I've seen in months.
...Amazing.

DaBigBRI love aviation threads. They're all in competition with each other to become the biggest dick measuring contest.

sns3guppyNo dick measuring. Some of us have done it professionally for several decades.
Some haven't. The haven't crowd claims expertise. Humorous, really.
Especially to those who have.

Wait a minute. You're a pilot? I did not know that. Did anyone else here know he was a pilot? An
expert pilot?
To sigforum staff: I see my post made it through moderation. Thank you, and sorry for the bother.

OttoSigI've traveled 36+ times with a firearm and no incidents. Double locked in a pelicanncase and shown to originating Airport, picked up at destination.
Why are you trying to skirt the system? Unfavorable firearms laws at destination? Just want trouble?
Do what they ask and declare the firearms. TSA rules clearly state that you must declare a firearm even if checked. Just do so and pick up at the counter when you land.

Right! Just do what they say and barring a mispah you'll have your firearms at their destination. Assuming destination state has amicable gun laws. Don't be trying to fly to NYC like a dumbass.

SummersAtTheLakeJust to show how much things have changed....I worked for a construction company out of Nebraska for many years and in 1980 I was working in South Carolina. I flew back to NE commercial for the company meeting and then the Christmas party. At the meeting there were firearm give away and I got a Winchester Model 70 30.06 (which I still have).
The day after the party several of us flew in the company plane to St Louis where we would catch our commercial flights.
I walked in the St Louis main terminal carrying the unboxed Winchester and not one person said a word to me about it and nobody even seemed alarmed.
I stood in line and checked in and the gal (who was very nice) said I would need to put the rifle in a hard case (I was expecting this) so I bought a nice one (which I still have) right over the counter for $20.00 and I got on the plane and had a good flight.
100% guarantee that this was a true event.

ulstermanI declare every time I fly with a firearm. I also use the cable in the box to attach them to the inside of my suitcase.
I got back from a trip to Oregon and there was a note in my bag saying the TSA had randomly picked my bag to search.
After the "search", they put items into my bag that didn't belong to me. I went ballistic. TSA acted like it was no big deal.

sns3guppySecurity guy's other option, instead of undeclared checked luggage is, of course, undeclared carry-it-through-security, like the illuminated soul today in Atlanta.
quote:
The incident began around 1:30 p.m. ET when a "prohibited item" was identified going through the X-ray at the security checkpoint, the TSA said. A bag search was initiated, and a TSA officer told the passenger not to touch the property. However, as the officer searched the bag, the "passenger lunged into the bag and grabbed a firearm, at which point it discharged," the TSA said.
"The passenger then fled the area, running out of the airport exit," the statement said, adding, "This was not an active shooter event."
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/1...ort-scare/index.htmlFleeing, after discharging one's undeclared illegal firearm in carry-on luggage at the security screening checkpoint, may not have been the owners best play.
With almost 4700 showing up at screening checkpoints this year as people tried to pass through security with the undeclared firearm illegally in their carry-on bags, what's one more?
Thank god it wasn't a chocolate bar.

Yeah and I was in the terminal today when this happened. Thanks to this jack ass for screwing up the whole flight schedule of 1000s of people. I was ok, my plane was only delayed about 15 minutes. But my coworker had a 2 hour delay. What a mess, A whole place on lockdown because one total fucking idiot.

IcabodWhen we returned from a Baltic cruise, we carried some wood carvings purchased in Russia.
Every time we went through a scanner we had to stop, open our baggage and unwrap the carvings. The scanner read the wood as plastic explosive.
The Danes were a hoot, the Brits OK and TSA were rude.
BTW we used the Global Entry Program and saved lots of time.
