"A police official in the southeastern city of Busan said the injury to Lee Jae-myung, chairman of South Korea’s Democratic Party, was non life-threatening. A male suspect is in custody, the official said...
...The official described the wound as less than half an inch long. Lee was conscious and experienced little blood loss, the official told NBC News in an interview...
...The suspect has not been identified, and authorities did not provide additional details about the nature of the attack."
Forgive my ignorance, but what are the political “leanings” of S. Korea’s Democratic Party? Are they Leftards like our Demoshit party here?

"The liberal politician is known for his outspoken style and is currently on trial for alleged bribery - which he denies...relating to a development project when he was mayor of Seongnam near Seoul....
...The liberal is also known for his outspoken style, with supporters seeing him as an anti-elitist crusader, but critics view him as a populist who stokes divisions and demonises conservative rivals."
Maybe not a good idea to let the media get that close.

Democratic Party is generally Center-Left. People Power Party is Conservative.
The guy who was stabbed, Lee Jae-myung lost the recent South Korean presidential earlier this year. Like many politicians that have a leftward lean/bent, climate change seemed to be in his top-3 of agendas, much of the push is the more extreme parts of the party. He's on record of not being a fan of the US position with regards to China, believes South Korean can chart its own course with China while maintaining its own independence.
I'm not fully up to date but, I do recall South Korean politics having some serious upheaval with the impeachment of its female president several years back which involved a major scandal involving influence and some electoral shenanigans resulting in a far lefty getting elected who was too friendly with the Norks, he got booted in the last election.

The female President, Park Geun-hye, was removed in 2017, yes, which led to the election of Moon Jae-in as their next President, who served the entire 5-year term. He was not "booted in the last election", because he was never in it. Has nothing to do with North Korea. South Korean Presidents are term limited after a one 5-year term.
Btw, this Lee Jae-myung is a real bad actor. If you guys have a chance, watch the movie Asura: The City of Madness. Of course, it's just a movie, but the Korean folks know it is about this Lee guy.
ETA: By "bad actor", I mean he's really corrupt, and it has nothing to do with acting. Not really surprising, as government officials there are just as corrupt as those here. But, this guy seems to be notch worse that they made a movie about him. Lol.This message has been edited. Last edited by: 12131,

I shouldn't have used 'booted' as that implies Moon was removed from office which you rightly pointed out he was not, nevertheless, Moon is an adherent to the 'sunshine' policy with North Korea.
