The settlement that made the news was rejected by the end by the court and it isn’t clear yet what is happening.
The proposed settlement everyone is talking about would not help the average buyer or seller and would throw the market into chaos, at least for a while.
The idea this is good for anyone other than the attorneys splitting the money on this particular case, is foolish.

This kind of change does seem like it could complicate transactions and potentially impact agent earnings and buyers' costs.
It's not going to be easy, but think it also depends on how agents and brokerages adapt to the situation. Those with strong support systems, like exp realty teams, which share tools, training within a strong community, may have an easier time adjusting.

Have no idea what has transpired. But guessing transactions by owners and buyers directly will become more the norm. Which is already the case. Then there won't be anything to split for realtors to haggle over.

I've bought/sold 4 properties and have not paid a real estate commission. I've reviewed and written contracts for many more.

Don't take that as anti- real estate agent, as I am not. It's a useful service, for most people, especially if they can't find their own buyer. But if a buyer/seller find each other and can agree on terms, it's often just as easy and less expensive to have an attorney draw up the contract.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
