Thinking about adding a bed cover to my F150, and think I have it narrowed down to 3 options.<BR>All have their drawbacks & limitations, and these 3 are relatively close (50-100 spread) in price.<BR><BR>The 3 that are on my short list are the Peragon, BakFlip MX4 and Pace Edwards Switchblade.<BR><BR>Peragon: A nice looking cover, sturdy, but folds into the bed, so you can't load the bed to the max & still fold the cover. Not a huge deal breaker, as I rarely have that much in the bed. It's also easily removed, leaving only the rails, for full bed access.<BR>The aluminum is powder coated (I likely wouldn't pay the extra for color match). So weather resistance seems good.<BR><BR>BakFlip MX4: Folds upward, can latch open with 2 panels folded, or can flip up & rest against the cab for practically full bed access, at the expense of a blocked rear window. It's also a bit wider than the cab when flipped up, so a bit of extra drag in that case, I assume. It allows for full bed capacity. Supposedly is a simple removal process.<BR><BR>Switchblade: Retractable into a canister at the front of the bed. My dad has one on his 6.5' bed Duramax, so it's the only one that I have any direct hands-on experience with. The canister is pretty minimal & doesn't take up much bed space. Also, a fairly simple removal, should the full bed be needed. No bed space restrictions, since the rolled cover is contained in the canister.<BR>I have noticed that my the sheen on the vinyl on my dad's has started to weather/oxidize a bit.<BR><BR>I'm not a big fan of the rolling covers & the BakFlip and Truxedo models are roughly $100 than the 3 mentioned above.<BR><BR>A solid 1-piece, front hinged cover is a 100% no. I've been sold on the MX4, but recently started looking more at the Peragon. Haven't seen on in person, which I'd prefer to do before making a decision.
I'd initially ruled out the Switchblade, as I was thinking they were over $1k. Seems they've either come down or I had my pricing wrong, as they can be had in the mid-700s.

How do you fold in the Peragon if there is something bulky in the front of your bed? Seems like you'd have to drop the tailgate and shimmy in there to remove said obstruction first.

Put me down for the BakFlip.

Correct, when folded the Peragon takes up about 6-7" & hangs down about 10-11". So anything in that space would limit/restrict its ability to fold.

With the Peragon, my thought would be to build a 'toolbox' of sorts, that would prevent anything from sliding into the 'obstruction zone'.

I’ve been happy with my UnderCover Flex.


Can have closed, partial, or full open with struts that hold it up.

^The Flex looks to be a similar design to the MX4, at about the same price.

If you are looking for more security and the option of carrying a load on the cover, you might consider a Diamondback. Expensive, but nice.

Carrying a load on top of the cover is a pretty bottom-of-the-list priority.
Given that the Diamondback is over $1k, that rules it out. Trying to keep it under $1k & the 3 above all come in around $7-800. The DB is a bit more heavy duty than I'll likely ever need.

And, I just priced it via your link & it's about $920.

I have a Bakflip on my F150, been a couple Years now no issues.
I like that it sits at the level of the bed so it has a clean side profile.

It was about $750 IIRC installed.

I had the Peragon on my Silverado and the Bakflip is hands down better.

Jaaron pointed out the big flaw (it’s in the damn way). Trying to tie down something was a PITA and even if I went through the cumbersome removal process the hangers were still in the way. I loaned it to a buddy who tied down a load to the front hangers and had to soend a bunch if time straightening them out.

The unobvios problem with the Peragon is it’s thin single piece of aluminum (the Bakflip is a sandwich). It bends easy (certainly can’t support 400# like a Bakflip) and somebody easily broke in through it. It was locked on an empty bed but I still had to buy a cover. I put an ARE cap on it and didn’t even consider putting a Peragon back on it.

With my Frontier, a Peragon was not even considered since I was not impressed with my experience.

Anybody got a vinyl top??
Haven’t got the money for those hard toppers.

If you want a folding top, get an extang. If you want a solid tonneau, then I recommend ARE. I had a bakflip and it faded a lot after a few years, but was otherwise ok. They are easy to break into.

I'm in the market as well and like the BakFlip MX4.
I see ACTEG mention it is easy to break into. tatortodd how would you rate the security of yours?

If you knew what you were doing you could open the Bakflip similar to how thieves open garage doors by tripping the garage door release with something long, slim and rigid.

Like I said, it's a hell of a lot stronger than the Peragon and the lock didn't mean shit on the Peragon.

Did you have the aluminum bakflip or the poly bakflip?

So far my Bakflip looks better than my neighbor's extang. He actually prefers my Bakflip but he was too impatient to wait for the Bakflip (immediate gratification at store vs waiting for shipment).
