At my house, I don't remember having to ask permission to buy anything. I bought a mini bike and a go cart, without notification, and shopped for a hunting rifle I didn't buy. I had decided on 30-30, but dad thought I should consider other cartridges. Bought a new 1972-1/2 CB350 Honda, no discussion about motorcyles being dangerous. The family 22 auto lived in my or one of my brothers rooms, and nobody even thought about it. If you used your own money, we were on our own.

My first job was pumping boat gas at 9 years old for $2/day. So I didn't rack up spending money very fast.

I was about 8 or 9. Lady was selling puppies from a box in front of the grocery store for 10 bucks. Just had a birthday so I had the 10 bucks. I found out when I got home that I probably should have asked. Dad said either he feeds me or the dog, my choice.

If it was my money, nothing, so long as I could legally purchase it.

Yeah, my first gun. A little 22, probably a heritage I think.

And our first go cart.

Not exactly permission, but when foo foo cotton frilly tops and camisoles and skirts were in style when we were teen's, mom would warn us that if that was what we wanted, SHE wasn’t ironing it and it was not going to be worn out of the house unironed.
