2000Z-71So I won pic of the day
Our local news station has a pic of the day on the morning broadcast. Well they selected one of my Orca pics today. Kind of cool, worth nothing other than bragging rights. Of course a free lens from Nikon, a free cruise from Kenai Fjords Tours, or even a cheeseburger from McDonald's would've been welcome.

trapper189This is cool. You someone is going to say it anyway, so might as well be me: You're gonna need a bigger boat.

Tejas421Cool pic. How far away were you? I've seen Orca pods from North Sea oil platforms but they were usually 500 meters or so away.

Skins2881Won my car Facebook photo contest. I didn't get any cool prizes, just my pic as the group photo for the next two weeks. I was happy with my prize.

2000Z-71That pod got extremely close to the boat. That picture was taken just before that particular Orca went under, swam under the boat and surfaced on the other side. Here it is with it's surprise surfacing on the other side, so close and so quick I didn't have time to zoom out on the lens to frame the shot. The first shot I really have no idea how close it was, the second was literally 25' off the side of the boat.

Rey HRHI see the two pics and the first is great. Something tells me you’re holding out. Any more shots from that episode?
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

flashguyHow neat! As one who has had a photo recognized recently, I think I know how you feel. Any such recognition is an honor.

comet24That's awesome. I did one of their cruises when I was in Seward. That entire area is so beautiful.
