I'll go sit in a GR86.

Good observation trapper, same as the Corolla HB when I bought it. Sedans were made somewhere in North America while hatchbacks were made in Japan. All the Mazda 3 HB's I pull up are J models.

Hatchback or sedan? Manual or automatic?

According to autotrader.com, there’s 49 manual transmission Mazada3 Hatchbacks for sale within 500 miles of my zip code. The VIN numbers of the first 25 I looked at started with J. I looked at a couple of sedans and their VINs started with a 3.

My 3 is a sedan with automatic transmission.

Very good info here.

I have a non turbo Outback and I’d like something sportier but still hatch back and AWD for winters.

2.5l Crosstrek?
Don't recall if it's still available with the 6mt

Mazda 3 HB is available in AWD both normally aspirated and turbo. Both versions utilize a conventional 6 speed automatic vs CVT that Subaru uses. I'm not sure but Subaru's all time AWD may be a little more effective than Mazda's on demand AWD.
