The beagle has landed! How to get a dog from Charleston, SC to Punta Gorda, FL?
Long story short, 86yo father wants a 8yo beagle that’s in Charleston, SC. I’m not available to drive up and back, my dad cannot do the drive by himself, the airlines don’t fly the planes that can accommodate live animals between Charleston and Florida.

Any ideas besides find a closer dog?

Get in touch with the rescues in the area lots of them have contacts for travel - even truckers will bring dogs back-and-forth. Find a beagle rescue.

That A1 guy looks reliable. May have to wait until he bonds out.

In the last year, that guy has lead police on two 100mph+ chases and fired shots at people at a local WalMart. All three times he had a different minor girl in the car. Their parents must be so proud. I only know of him because the WalMart shooting girl lives 3 streets down from mine and police had her house surrounded when I drove by. I don't think they'll let him bond out this time.

Irreverent, thank you for the great suggestion.

Turns out my dad's neighbor knows someone who ferries show dogs around the country and this person will do it for a reasonable price.

That was pretty quick and you figured it out by yourself. Although, your solution may just be happenstance. But it sounds like he'll do a custom run for you?

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." The neighbor's wife was the one that suggested this particular dog as she knows the breeder, but she thought getting the dog here would be easy. She just came up with the solution a few hours ago when she realized my dad's solution involved her husband driving to South Carolina and back.

Punta Puppy? Big Grin

(My youngest daughter was involved in rescues years ago and had some very unique and neat tales of how folks would do "relays" to get animals moved all over the place.

The logistics were pretty wild at times, but they always managed to get them where they needed to be.

Different when it's a passion and not a Jay Oh Bee.

May "Dad and Dog" live long and prosper.

Punta neighbor would be better. I don't mean that of course, they're good people. They can't help it though, they're from Long Island.

My dad was all set to adopt Wilson, another 8yo beagle, from a nearby beagle rescue until the neighbor suggested this other dog.

This started when he called me a couple months ago and said "I want to get a dog." He's had a dog most of his life: mostly Bassett Hounds, but the last one was a West Highland White Terrier. I'm all onboard and tell him he should definitely get a dog, then tells me he wants a big, male German Shepard Dog.

As long as he got a dog and a dog got him.

Check out Pilots N Paws (www.pilotsnpaws.org). It's a network of general aviation pilots that do missions like these.

Look into this. Shipped a GSD from NC to WA last year. He is coming back next week the same way.

A little spendy. I think you get bids/quotes. The wife and daughter worked it up, I wasn't involved.

He was dropped off at my Dad’s last night. I just got off the phone with my dad and he sounded in probably the best spirits I’ve heard in a year.
