The Dems are showing their bias towards Catholics again. The Senate judicial panel was grilling Amy Barrett, a Notre Dame professor and another Catholic candidate for federal judgeships a few days ago. Thought they would have learned from the leaked emails. From the WSJ article Democrats and Dogma : Proving Mr. Rivkin’s point. Sen. Dick Durbin jumped in to demand of Ms. Barrett: “Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?” Does Mr. Durbin understand that he sounds like the Southern Baptist ministers in 1960 who thought Jack Kennedy shouldn’t be President because he’d take orders from the pope? ‘Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that—you know, dogma and law are two different things. And I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different. And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years in this country.” Thus did California Sen. Dianne Feinstein pronounce on Wednesday that, by virtue of being a faithful Catholic, Amy Barrett, a respected law professor at Notre Dame, may have excluded herself from a federal judgeship. They want her to say she supports "Roe" and LGBTQ "rights", but she cannot say how she would rule in future cases. Our Constitution prohibits a religious test for public offices, but that didn't stop them from pushing. In the old paper they are waving around, she had reached the conclusion (decades ago) that a judge should recuse herself if her religious beliefs would influence a ruling. But the Dems wouldn't acknowledge that a judge could be that open-minded. That in itself says a lot about what libs would do if they were the judge.

Does Durbin even realize what "orthodox Catholic" means? Because it doesn't mean what he thinks it does. I have my own style of humor. I call it Snarkasm.

U. S. Constitution Article VI, Clause 3: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. I think this should settle the matter. --------------------- DJT-45/47 MAGA !!!!! Liberalism is not about any particular ideology. It is about TEARING DOWN any existing or traditional ideology to leave the people with nothing to cling to except the power of the State and the "elites" that wield that power....for the good of the people, of course. This is why religion is such a threat. Nothing can be allowed to be "higher" in moral authority than the State. "Crom is strong! If I die, I have to go before him, and he will ask me, 'What is the riddle of steel?' If I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me."

Jewish Feinstein doesn't, but she trips up over Catholic "dogma." As I pointed out in the other thread, the Supreme Court has 5 Roman Catholics, 3 Jews and an Episcopalian. All this is merely cover. What they are really fearing is anyone who might tamper with Roe v. Wade. Any candidate for the Federal judiciary who has expressed the slightest hint of a possible sympathy for modifying or overrulng Roe v. Wade will draw implacable opposition. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. Durbin is catholic and what if he or Feinstein asked a Muslim if they subscribe to the violent passages in the Koran, never would happen. The left hates Christians, and it's perfectly acceptable.

While I've heard of Orthodox Christians (I.E. Russian Orthodox), I have never heard of Orthodox Catholic. What would happen if this was a private business interviewing candidates for a job. Wouldn't pointed questions about an individual's religion create the perception of discrimination? I believe that Jallen's comment is an astute observation and probably right on the money.

Ya, I'm Ukrainian Orthodox Catholic, but I mostly go to Roman Catholic Mass. Nothing, really different. I supposes she doesn't know what Orthodox is.

It should settle the matter, but unfortunately it will not. Idiots like Durbin will continue to spout the BS to disqualify any candidates submitted by the Trump admin. Don't Panic |
As contrasted by the convivial welcome provided other Trump judicial nominees? They have already decided to sputter and fume, just not which excuse to use for the sound and fury. If they had any functional synapses, they might pick excuses that didn't insult a good chunk of the electorate. Good thing there's no sign of that.
