My dog will drink from his or any bowl. If his gets empty, he will bring it to me for a refill. SIGnature NRA Benefactor CMP Pistol Distinguished

From what I've read, a healthy dog "can" go a day or two without water depending on conditions and what the dog is doing. Sitting inside in AC yes, outside in very warm temps, no. We've had a little bowl in our dog's crate and as far as we can see he doesn't take a sip. Overnight we don't have a camera on him, but water levels indicate he's not drinking. I feel bad not offering it, but if it's not consumed it get's slimy and needs to be changed out often along with a good washing of the bowl. Our dog get's only bottled water. I think we're going to try without water overnight and see if he runs for his regular water bowl when he wakes up. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

A dog won’t starve or dehydrate itself, when it gets thirsty or hungry enough it’ll go to any bowl. Let the dog decide. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I respectfully disagree with this. I had an employee who mentioned to me that her dog hadn’t eaten for a few days and she was trying to wait it out. It didn’t work out well. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Not eating wasn't a choice, the dog didn't take a stand against eating. There was likely an underlying cause. Let a dog go without food a couple days and it'll start looking at you like a piece of meat. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Live for today. Tomorrow will cost more |
This part intrigues me. If the new dog will drink from a bowl adjacent the auto filler, then she must be at least partially amenable to the sound it makes. Otherwise, I'd think that one instance would put her off the water again. Inveterate tinkerer that I am, I would probably conjure up a method for the auto filler to refill both bowls simultaneously, so that she'd always have water in bowl #2 as well. suaviter in modo, fortiter in re
