I’d like to use a lathe...could thread my barrels, build things, and I’d like a side of gig welding-that seems helpful

Although I played the trumpet well for many years, I really would like to learn the banjo. Alas, arthritis in my hands would be a detriment.

But that may not be considered a "skill" in this threads context so...

Mastery of all forms of welding. Knife making might be a close second.

Ah, no. Mastery is not included. Just the intro course.

I would think that someone's "mastery" list would be different than someone's "fun-to-have" list.

Like, I think it would be fun to learn to weld. But if I had to master a skill, being fluent in Mandarin would take my career places that welding couldn't.

I sometimes think it's better not knowing. My senior year in high school and 2 years ater that I worked in a machine shop. They made parts for blow molding machines (like a shampoo bottle). We had many lathes and many Bridgeport milling machines. The owner liked me so he had the CNC guy show me how to program the Mazak CNC lathe and milling machines. After a few years I got frustrated with something and quit.

I then went to work a a gas station that also had service bays. Did that for a short while as I took college classes.

Now that I no longer have access to a lathe, milling machine (Bridgeport) or a car lift.....I SERIOUSLY want 1 of each. I almost think it would be better to not know what it's like to have access to those, and then lose the access.

I can also weld, just not very well.

Wood turning. I’m 53 now and want to get into this. Trying to find a couple of classes that I can attend to know for sure. This might turn into a post retirement hobby down the road.

Well, I already just chose something new to learn last summer: Golf. Still working on that.

I think next up will be welding. TIG or MIG, I imagine.

I'd like to learn to weld.

I have, or had, a simple understanding of welding as I used to sell some welding equipment many years ago.

What I'd like to be able to do is to weld up decorative metal gates and fences. I think people generally refer to those as wrought iron gates and fences although I'm pretty sure they're just steel.

I'd really like to further my pilot certificates, but in the spirit of "new" skills, I already hold several aeronatical certificates.

In the coming years I think lock picking might be useful. I do plan to do something about that soon, as it isn't a skill you learn overnight.

I've always wanted to attend the 1 month wilderness EMT school. Given the opportunity I plan to act on this. I have military related training in a more advanced first aid, and I actually attended a few conferences in emergency medicine with my father decades ago. I think I know enough to be dangerous, but I've unfortunately had opportunity to use some of these skills first hand in emergency medical situations. I'd like better and more comprehensive training in how to handle medical situations when help isn't coming. All of my very limited training, and all the local opportunities for training are geared towards assessing, stabilizing, and transporting. The reality for the situation I'm working towards is that help isn't coming, and if it can't be handled in the field options for care are nearly non-existent.

I read a meme on a forum last night that long distance shooting is like golf but for smart people...I thought that was funny. I'm attempting to learn long distance shooting.

Gosh Kip! Leave me alone!

If I had a magic wand, I'd like to go through Porsche's Certified Technician program in order to get a full time gig with a Porsche dealership. The ultimate goal would be able to work on my eventual 911 4S.

I've never even touched a lathe or mill, or a welder, but I already want one of each. I have much want.

Me too-ish. I played trombone for years as a kid and into college, and I was an okay amateur player.

I have noodled around with guitar and mandolin since then, but to say I can play overstates it. I would like to have the chance to get moderately good at either of both of those.

I’d like to learn how to operate backhoes, excavators, loaders, etc. without being so uncoordinated. I was using a mini-ex on Saturday and I swear I couldn’t do it smoothly. Had me cussing to myself.

My dad learned to play piano as a child-those skills carried over to his jobs in the CG(driving booms, pile drivers etc), he had a backhoe that he learned in ten minutes, tractors, heavy equipment....he attributes it to the piano...he can touch type and never had a class in school.

I literally saw him sit on a new track hoe and he was operating it like a pro in ten minutes...the operator couldn’t believe he had no training on that model.
