PR64What's A Full Synthetic Oil Change Running These Days For You?
Last December I had it done on my 2014 Escape and it was around $100.
My Escape died on me around the July 4th week and I bought a Mustang Mach E.
No more oil changes for me…

AeteoclesThe last time I paid for an oil change was in December of 2020.
It was $309.85 for a Land Rover Discovery diesel.
That was the straw that broke this camel's back. I no longer pay for maintenance and do it all myself. Oil and filter using German Rowe Synt RS HC-C1 and a better-than-oem filter is $81.95 plus shipping.

.38supersigMine is $75 or so getting me a Fram filter and 10 quarts of Mobil 1.

That's about where our vehicles are. Synthetic costs me twice as much as regular dinosaur juice, but I only have to change it half as often. That equals a time savings for me.

subaru dealership charges $70 for my daughter's car.
much cheaper when i get oil from fcp euro and do it myself and ship old oil back for credit towards the next order. i'm using the 0w20 molygen now as well in both cars.

To the best of my knowledge, 0W-20 doesn't come in a blend. However, I don't see why you couldn't use 5W20, which does. Look in your owner's manual and see if it has an oil viscosity vs. temperature chart.

$300+ would have definitely pushed me over the edge also.
I take my Mercedes SUV (M-class; it's old) and C230 Kompressor to an independent shop staffed by former Mercedes folks to have my oil changed for about $96...with Mobile 1 + filter

220-9erThe truth is, oil changes at dealerships and regular repair shops (not the quick lubes) are loss leaders.
Designed to get you in there so they can check your car over and sell other more profitable stuff.

FYI, every oil sold today is "synthetic blend" or "synthetic".
The latest API rating is SP and its impossible to meet this standard as a "conventional" oil, as I understand it. So even if an oil is sold as a standard conventional oil, you can be almost certain it is part synthetic.
So I would not pay extra for a synthetic blend oil over a "regular" or "conventional" oil change.
On a beater car, just get the cheapest oil change you can get from your trusted local shop.
Some shops charge labor, perhaps $15-$20 if you bring the supplies in. That way you know exactly what oil and what filter are going on your car. Not a bad way to go.
Maybe call a mom and pop shop and ask what their basic oil change cost, and then ask what the labor cost is if you bring your own oil and filter.

I have only seen one synthetic blend 0W20 oil, made by Castrol. Walmart sells it.
That being said, its the same cost as synthetic oil, so why not just buy the synthetic?

Prefontaine6 quarts of Amsoil in the truck with the OEM filter is almost $75 in supplies alone. Whatever I can get labor on it for, usually $25-30. It’s a $100 oil change. Thankfully it’s not my DD and I don’t have to change it every year.
Bikes I do myself, about $50 with OEM filter, again with Amsoil full synth. Ski is $44 or something because no oil filter.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

jimb888Corolla Hybrid, gets 65MPG which stuns me every time I look at the MPG readout.
I do it: $31
Dealer does it = $120
I wouldn't take it to a fast oil change shop, don't trust them.

Ironmike57Mobil 1 high mileage synthetic 26.97 and a Honda oem filter 13.00. I bring it to a local shop and pay them 20.00
In and out in 15 minutes.

Muddflap7 quarts of Motorcraft synthetic, and a Motorcraft filter is $120.00 at the Ford dealer.
A few years ago, it was $75.00.

HRKGot a 15% off coupin in the email for the Valvoline quick change place.
BTW some of those places will let you bring your own oil and filter and charge you the labor, if you are adverse to using their stuff, and, like me to lazy to get under the car anymore...
October 06, 2023, 08:13 AM
EdmondNot as expensive as others since I have a 1.5l 4 cylinder and require 4 quarts of oil. I catch the 2 pack gallons of 0w-20 on sale at Costco for $33 and FRAM filter for $7 at Walmart.
But for me, it's not just the cost of the oil change. It gives me the chance to rotate the tires, inspect the brakes and take a look and feel to make sure everything is okay.

TheBull$115 in Allentown, PA, and that was the Subaru dealer special. I run Idemitsu oil, which is about $37 per 5 qt. container. I had to get a case of 6 tokyo-roki filters from japan for $50+, Never been to the dealer, and don't plan on starting anytime soon.
