63 today and very close to retirement....I think
Because of a strange situation with my job, it'll either be done soon....in the next month or maybe next spring. Either way is mostly fine by me, but I certainly feel what most people say; "you'll know when it's time."

I'm ready!

Congrats and happy B-day.

We have been discussing retirement in several threads. I am sure you have been following.

If you are considering retirement I am sure you have been giving a lot of consideration to all the aspects of getting to that point.

Retiring and retirement is a wonderful thing. It is and end and a beginning. Take a bit of time for the end. Then focus and spend the rest of your time on the beginning and enjoy it immensely. You have earned it. Again, congratulations.

Happy B'day and I hope you can enjoy early retirement.

Thanks for the wishes, guys!

The biggest adjustment will be losing a routine and work friends. Otherwise, I have lots of fun planned and feel pretty secure financially. I'll keep my eye on the ball and keep hating the left! Big Grin

I retired at 63 as well, 10 yrs ago and have no regrets at all. Stay in contact with your work friends when you leave. A new routine will replace the old work routine in no time. The big difference is that you create it and not an employer or a boss. Huge improvement.

By the way, happy B-Day.

Jim

I retired before I planned on it . I don't regret the decision though . Get your ducks in a row as far as insurance , etc.

Congratulations on your upcoming adventure.

I pulled the trigger almost 2 years ago and find myself busier than when I was working…Not complaining but surprising non the less that all these little projects that I had been postponing all these years are still there AND my wife evidently had been compiling her own list for me as well!

The trouble with being retired is that you never get a day off...

Go to as many retirement seminars as you can! If your company offers them, great. If not, many financial planners do them to sell their products, go and take notes.

Between SS, a 401K, a pension (maybe), and Medicare it can be very complicated with lots of moving parts, some connected to your spouse. Planning ahead helps.
