Another dishwasher question for Appliance Brad
It looks like our Kenmore dishwasher is on its last legs, its about 10 years old. We get a blinking green light which according to the label means the dishes aren't sanitized, and the last cycle didn't appear to finish the dishes, they were very wet but seemed clean. Now the unit won't start a new cycle.

A service visit is at least $90, I'm considering just getting a new one. My question is do you think its worth fixing a 10 year old unit or just replace it now and if so do you have a recommended model at this time?

Thank you very much for your time.

You might unplug it, or kill the circuit breaker, for a few minutes, then restart.

I don't know if yours has any sort of microprocessor, I think the newer ones do. (my clothes washer goes stupid silly every few months, this works to get it going again properly).

Good luck to you.

The currently made ones may not do a very good job of cleaning your dishes, but they're quiet and they save water. And that is, after all, why we have a dishwasher.

I know this will probably not help much, but just last week a single mother from our church had the exact same problem, blinking green light and 13 year old dishwasher not working. Our church has a group of men that handles these problems so I and another guy went out. He just alternately pressed heat and some other button on the front several times until dishwasher went into reset mode. All lights flashed several times and then ran through a cycle. Has worked every since. I don't remember which buttons he pressed so probably won't help much.I asked him if that was in the manual and he said no, they don't tell you that. Maybe he researched it on YouTube or something before we went out.

We have done the reset on the control panel once and got it to run a cycle, but then the green light started blinking again at the end. We reset it again today and I am going to run it this morning and see if it completes a cycle and actually cleans the dishes. Thanks for the comments so far.

After about 3 resets of the control panel the dishwasher seems to be working normally now. Will keep an eye out for any new dishwasher recommendations though.

Thanks.

Six blinks a minute? Heater circuit fault.

You need to run the diaganostic cycle and it should clear.

To get it into diagnostic you have to "Key Dance" between usually the pots/pans and air dry. There should be a teh sheet behind the insulation in the lower access panel with instructions.

Brad my sincere apology for not acknowledging this sooner, I just now saw your reply while searching for more info on dishwashers since the machine has starting acting up again.

Thanks for the info, I will try to run the diagnostics cycle again and see what happens.

Thanks again and sorry for the delay.

10 years is about the life of one. A comparable one is $250-400, I'd just replace.
