We got a GE pretty similar to this almost 2 years ago to replace at 16 year old GE (still working fine as an extra in the basement) and have been happy with it so far. The one minor grip I had about it was that the water filter cartridge has an RFID tag on it and was only available though GE. That's since changed. The knock offs I've been buying are half the price and match the OE spec.

Witticism pending... |
I was looking for a fridge about 9 months ago and my appliance repairman said don't buy LG or Samsung. Other than that, shop features and price. His shop price comment was based on my desire for a durable, basic fridge. I don't need bluetooth, see-through doors, or 4 different ice options. I went with a 33", stainless, top fridge/bottom freezer Whirlpool. There's an ice maker in the drawer but no dispenser. It was a just under $1500 tax/delivery/installation included. I don't see myself ever again owning a side-by-side. I'm not as illiterate as my typos would suggest.☮

We recently replaced a 14 year old GE bottom freezer model since a door latch part broke. The part is no longer available but I could get a new door for $1100 as a special order. Costco had a Whirlpool model on sale. 25 cubic feet, stainless, French door, bottom freezer model. It was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than anywhere else and included delivery and haul away. Last month we replaced the GE dishwasher as well. Also 14 years old and parts no longer available. Another Whirlpool from Costco. Next up is the cooktop.

If you buy an LG, a few years later after it breaks down you can use it for ammo storage.

As for style, stick with side by side. Freezer draw on the bottom has gravity working against it regardless of brand. Yes it holds more, but holding more means more weight pulling down on the draw as you open it. No slider rail is going to hold-up over the long run. “We’re in a situation where we have put together, and you guys did it for our administration…President Obama’s administration before this. We just replaced a 10 year-old Samsung with a new Whirlpool. (Based on the advice of our good forum members!) We got the one without water/ice in the door, so I don’t have a specific model recommendation. _________________________ 2nd Amendment Defender The Second Amendment is not about hunting or sport shooting.

Facts are stubborn things |
Not sure about everyone's experience with LG, but I have had one since 2013. I have not had a single issue with it. YMMV. Do, Or do not. There is no try.

Yep. We have an LG fridge and it is a POS, and has been from Day One. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I've had my Amana fridge for 25 years. Maytag washer/dryer the same number of years. Knock on wood. Only minor repairs needed, which I did myself. ---------------------------------- "These things you say we will have, we already have." "That's true. I ain't promising you nothing extra."

We bought an LG in 2018, the compressor failed last year. It was under warranty and was repaired. Fortunately we have a fridge in the garage, it took the appliance repair place a couple of weeks to get the replacement part.

My personal experience? Such a crap shoot…they all seem to suck these days. For every favorable review on one fridge you can find a bunch of negatives elsewhere. We had the same freaking fridge my entire childhood until I left home for college and don’t recall a single repair. We’ve had expensive ones and cheap ones in including GE ( I used to work for them so had good pricing), LG, Kitchenaid, Maytag and Kenmore. We had two homes for a while so I had some extra fridge experience. Honestly there are so many models, so many changes and variables it’s difficult to rely on anecdotal reviews. We just bought a Maytag in June as that is all we could find in stock to fit our space and needs…so far so good and the price was reasonable. The kenmore was the worst, so bad that they gave us a $700 gas grill for our troubles. The LG had issues- four visits (the tech said there was no factory solution but he had his own workaround which worked). The Kitchenaid gaskets did not hold up well and we’re not inexpensive, it also had some defrosting issues- for $3500+ we were not pleased. We have an old whirlpool in the basement which keeps on ticking but it’s a basic model. The more features you have seem to correlate with more problems. Parts/models become obsolete quickly. We no longer splurge on the “better” models as these are mostly disposable after not that many years…same with washers and dryers. I’m not seeing that much difference in my owner satisfaction between a 2k model and 4K model..I’ll pocket the 2k and put it elsewhere.

If your fridge shopping is anything like my dishwasher shopping last month, its going to come down to what is available not want you want. Very limited options. Dont get your mind set on a specific make or model.

Not a fan of GE Bought a double door GE high end back in 2009 Within a couple years the damn water dispenser feed started freezing up. Insulation stopped working...easy cheap fix but PITA. Then two years later the compressor started leaking freon. Gonzo! Left it on the street. Replaced with Whirlpool. Have owned several in the past few years...only prob was with in door icemaker in ~2005 model. Left a really nice bottom freezer french door Whirlpool in TX when I moved to NC a few years back...loved it. Got it on Black Friday discount at 2/3 list price. --------------------------------------- It's like my brain's a tree and you're those little cookie elves.

This is not a poke at you in particular, but it's sad that we say things like that now days like it's something. We should be saying "it's been flawless for 25 years".

LG. Gunmetal grey. Get the one with the door in door, and the craft ice cubes. Amazing. We love ours. ------- Trying to simplify my life...
