Good morning ,my wife has a 2017 jeep cherokee limited. the LCD screen in her in car stereo has a "wavy line " in it and has now started to act crazy. turns on and off radio/blue tooth synchs and un synchs by itself and now it has started to call people without her knowing.

my question is , is there a TSB or a known issue that the dealer can/would fix??
it also controls her satnav and HVAC so I was wondering how much it is to repair/replace?
can I just put an aftermarket head unit in there?

can i just pop off the dash/cover parts and unplug old one screen and plug in a new one ?
can they be bought aftermarket ??

She is wearing me out LOL so if yall have any suggestions I would love to hear them , before I give the dealer 1k$ to repair/replace

thanks!

thanks, shawn

Not an expert on jeeps or this issue, but have your battery and alternator tested. Sometimes a bad battery or high voltage can cause issues like this. If that checks out ok, try disconnecting the positive battery cable for ten minutes and see if reseting it that way may fix it.

jimmy123x is correct re: battery causing problems in Cherokee models. TX and AZ + heat + age of battery = weird probs.

golddot,

Our "fleet" here is a Wrangler and a Liberty so take what I say with a grain or two of salt.

At least in both of ours they were equipped with the non touch screen radios originally. Mine developed at first a loss of AM radio reception than later FM. Satellite, CD and Aux jack worked fine. FCA was using Siemens as the supplier of that particular radio. Radio was soldered with lead-free solder and cold solder joints were a known problem. ROHS compliant solder from what I understood. On those there was a lot in the forums about that problem together with YouTube repairs.
A lot of radio problems can be traced back to bad connections, possibly this one too?

Long story short, I installed a touch screen with Nav despite the FCA dealers telling me it could not be done.

I looked at aftermarket radios, lot of reasons I decided to do the swap using a factory radio.

IF you decide to go aftermarket, do your homework especially with all the functions your touch screen performs, mine was minimal only related to audio and nav.

Again, never looked at the Cherokee but in my case(s) at the bottom of the touch screen bezel at the bottom is a three letter code. Make sure it matches. Also, a Cherokee might "share" the same physical size with other FCA vehicles. Make sure if you try to find an OEM radio that it came from the correct vehicle, they have at least in most models two data speed radios, high and low. They are NOT interchangeable if yours is a high speed you need a high speed chassis, and the other way around. Also, the security system in those is important. Either get the four digit code or the VIN number of the vehicle it came out of, with the VIN you will have to visit a dealer and have them look up the security code as when you power the radio up it will ask for the security code and the radio becomes a brick if you do not have it.

If you send yours out for repair get the security code from a dealer first, you will need it to reinstall. If memory is correct United Radio is the repair facility, you can contact them as they do work for individuals as well as dealerships, out of Syracuse New York. But be prepared for a several week turnaround time though.

Hope this is some help, Email me if you need some more information.

I have a 2017 AM/FM/Sirius/CD and phone set-up radio I am selling if this would work for you. It came out of a Sahara if memory serves me. Bought it because wife was looking at a Jeep with NAV system she didn't want. I bought this radio to push her over the edge to get the Jeep but probably for the better we bought a different Jeep.

Guy I bought it from said he used it only long enough to upgrade his audio system. I have VIN# for code from dealer.

I have a 2015 JGC Ltd. That's a uConnect radio. It does a lot more than entertainment, phone interface, and backup camera.

I'd go here: JEEPForum.com and ask. Specifically, the JEEPForum.com WK2 Grand Cherokee Forum

There, they should be able to help you determine the possible causes of your problems, what are the implications, and what are your options.

+1 for JCC! Been a member there since I bought my '15 Trailhawk. They're a KL Cherokee-specific group and will be able to answer your questions and diagnose your problem (if the answer is anything other than you need a new UConnect unit).

FWIW, I'm on my third. All covered by my Lifetime/Unlimited Mile MaxCare plan, so I've only ever paid a $99 deductible, but the invoice on my last UConnect replacement (February 2019) was $945 for parts & labor.
