FenrisSo miscreants are going to pretend to be my
Real Doll (TM) in order to steal my affections?
Curse these reckless incorrigibles and their dastardly plots.

soggy_spinoutSo in theory...some terrorist or criminal thug could have a hacker group create a totally bogus identity, insert it into any and all the major databases, and VIOLA!, no more "bad guy", free to rob the world blind...or in the context of the pistol forum, buy and be approved for all the handguns--and rifles as well--that he (and his cronies) can afford. Presumably to rob the world blind.
Sounds very Hollywood. Except the authorities think it very real. Yeah...computers and automation...

BBMWIf we started biometrically keying everything, that problem would go away.

cslingerI feel like if we brought back the brazen bull for all hackers, identity thieves, Nigerian princes etc. much of this would go away......but I am getting a bit Luddite as I get older.

brazen bull
I didn't know what this was, so I just googled it.
Crap-o-mighty. Did they ever actually use that on somebody? You're right, those crimes would see a
precipitous decline!

BBMWOr what if we just reengineered the systems that create, maintain and use these IDs to make the fraud so technically difficult as to be impossible for the vast majority of people who'd want to commit it? I think that's a lot more viable, and in the end more effective. I don't think deterrence has proven very effective.
