Does anybody have any experience painting tile used on their bathroom counter and tub surround? The previous owners installed some really ugly tile and we're trying to fix it up either to sell the place or if we keep it, it won't be a few years until we get it. I was thinking about something like this: https://www.rustoleum.com/Digi...ile-transformations/ I'm trying to get a sense of if it will work/look ok. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Haven't done it personally but I am sure it can be done and done well. It's all in the prep!

That stuff reads like it may be a form of epoxy paint. It will likely work if you can get the surfaces clean.

Believe it's a silicone/epoxy blend. As usual, proper prep is key to a successful outcome. Gotta scrub the hell out of the old grout, getting all soap scum off everything as well. “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. Just because it can be done, this is one of those things I am not sure should be. You could always tile over the old tile with a newer style without removing the original. I think a newer tile would aid in a sale, increase the value and is not that hard to do. I have tiled many walls and it makes a big statement, especially in a master bath. How solid are the tiles on the wall now? What kind of condition is the drywall/grout in?

The same companies that paint tubs, also paint tiles here in South Florida...….their prices are reasonable and it lasts 3-5 years on a tub...…..longer on wall tiles......look for a company that does this as it's not much more than doing it yourself and the end product is much much better. Here they charge $300 to clean, prep and paint a bathroom tub and usually use an epoxy based paint and spray it. You WANT to spray it, not brush or roller it because the tiles are so flat, they'll show ANY imperfection if you brush or roller it yourself. Edited to add; the 4" ceramic tiles (and tub) in my master bathroom were painted by the previous owner of my house before I bought it Nov 2013. The tiles show no wear, the tub does show some signs of wear. This message has been edited. Last edited by: jimmy123x,

Countertops that have been painted/coated, one scratch and it looks like crap. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. You might get out before the devil even knows you're there. NRA ENDOWMENT LIFE MEMBER
