Steel roof is the only way to go. My first shingled roof lasted 25 years. The 2nd about 11 years. A friend is in the roofing biz and he says the asphalt mix today has to much "crap" in it. That's why the durability isn't there.

Ok - so my wife is now flip flopping on colors. Which, in turn, has got me questioning what color to go with.

Have a cream colored colonial with white trim. (no shutters). Struggling between some gray tones, darker charcoal tones, or some variations of brown.(currently have brown now)

If you are a roofer, or builder, I would love to get your opinion. I don't want to post a pic of my house on a public forum, but if you could email me, I would appreciate the opportunity to send you a picture and get your professional opinion on what looks best. (we are only staying in this this a few more years so resale value/curb appeal is important)

Email in profile.

Thanks

Just a point of confirmation since you’ve selected your shingle already, but both of my brothers are in the roofing supply business and they both prefer OC products.

Have you used any of the online simulators that allow you to upload a photo and switch back and forth between products to see how it looks?

a1abdj,

Yes, I used both the GAF and OC one. The simulation was not the greatest quality so it made it a bit challenging. I am going to take a different angle photo today and see if that works better.
