Edward “Cousin Eddie” Johnson military service
‘Is the season.

It’s that time of the year that we all find out the “Shitter was full, Merry Christmas”

In at least two of the movies, reference is made that Eddie was in the army.

Which led me to think about his military service. While his current mentality is that of a not too bright dunce, I have to wonder about his military occupational specialty.

We know Eddie is a hard drinker. He smokes cigars. He possesses skills necessary to kidnap a grown man from his bed and avoid detection. To the point only after the kidnapping of Frank Shirley does the wife catch on and report it to the authorities. I submit she did see him leaving in the vehicle and described him as a “huge beastly budging man” long after Eddie had already arrived back at the Griswold residence. During the blessing, which quickly turns into the Pledge of Alligence, he instinctively stands and renders proper etiquette.

While it is easy to say Eddie was a cook or some other MOS, none of it explains the steel plate (that had to be replaced with plastic and his part just won’t look right) in his head.

Based upon the above facts, I think Eddie was most likely attached to some form of Army special operations unit and his mental state is probably due to some degree of a traumatic brain injury that he suffered as part of his service.

Merry Christmas, y’all.

Prove me wrong and have fun.

In "Vegas Vacation" it was shown that Eddie lived in squalor while having thousands of dollars buried in holes around his property.

He was also quite proud of his daughters success as a 'dancer'.

I've only seen this level of mentality from USMC infantry and US Army artillery.

I'm guessing it's the latter.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Um...I say Signal....I may or may not have been involved with 2 kidnappings...one involved a very ugly woman and my roommate and the other....not saying Cool

I contend that the metal plate was either due to falling off a hill in Korea while drunk on duty.... Ahjussi may or may not have traded OB beer for MREs or cash

Or being hit by a 8lb sledge while driving in ground stakes.

Regardless of MOS, I'd guess he was one of "McNamara's Misfits", aka "Project 100,000" or the "New Standards Men". (A 1965-71 experiment wherein Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara controversially allowed the recruitment of men who fell below the minimum IQ standards. See also Forrest Gump and Private Pyle.)

After the alien abduction he was involved in the Strategic Defense Initiative "Star Wars program." It is believed he is currently a high ranking official in Space Force, but the Biden Administration will neither confirm nor deny those questions. He pretty much guaranteed his choice of assignments after his stellar performance on July 4, 1996.
