Senator Mitch McConnell hospitalized on Sunday morning, spokesperson says Spokesperson David Popp said the 84-year-old senator is receiving excellent care, and no details were released on the reason for his stay. On Sunday, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Louisville hospital for an undisclosed medical issue, with his office confirming the 84-year-old is receiving excellent care. McConnell has faced a series of health issues in recent years, including a concussion and broken ribs from a fall in March 2023 and a July 2023 news conference where his face briefly froze. First elected in 1984, the Kentucky Republican is the state's longest-serving senator and previously served 18 years as Senate's longest-serving leader before stepping down in 2024. Spokesperson David Popp stated Senator McConnell is receiving excellent care, though the office released no additional details about the hospitalization reason or expected duration of stay. While no longer in Senate leadership, McConnell concludes his final term having shaped President Donald Trump's first term through federal judicial appointments, despite often finding himself at odds with Trump during his second term. https://ground.news/article/se...l-office-says_4ac841This message has been edited. ^^^^^^^ He is done with political after this January. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

The vacancy would be filled by special election. The general election for McConnell's seat comes up in November anyway. It's likely Andy Barr would / will win both. Balance of power shouldn't be effected.

^^^^^ Wrong. There are no “special elections” for vacant Senate seats, only for Representatives. The current Governor Andy Beshear (Democrat) would appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the next regular election for senator, which is this November. The complication is that the Republican-controlled Kentucky Legislature passed a law over Beshear’s veto which stated that whichever political party held that seat, the appointee would have to come from that party. (Amendment 17, as modified per State Legislature authorization.) Would Beshear follow that, or would he ignore it and appoint someone of his political persuasion; only time can say? Should he go against the State law, there would be a court challenge (both in State and Federal courts), but by the time it would be done, the November Election would have been held and the new Senator-elect identified, and thus Overcome By Events (OBE). Beshear has all but formally declared that he is running for the Democrat nomination for the 2028 Election. He needs to make it appear that he is a viable individual for the Dems, and can draw disaffected Republicans and Independents to him. --------------------- DJT-45/47 MAGA !!!!! “Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur.” "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it." — Mark Twain “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” — H. Changed to special election in 2024 when the legislature passed HB622 over Beshear's veto. https://news.ballotpedia.org/2...-s-senate-vacancies/ "On April 12, lawmakers in the Republican-controlled Kentucky Legislature overrode Gov. Andy Beshear's (D) veto of House Bill 622. The bill amends Kentucky law "to require the Governor to sign a proclamation for an election to fill a vacancy in the office of United States Senator" and "extend the term of the candidate who wins special election to the remainder of the term." The bill was effective immediately. Before the change, the governor had the authority to fill U.S. Senate vacancies via appointment." You are correct that it is possible Beshear could ignore the law forcing a court challenge.

Reading the tea leaves on his place in the pecking order for the next D nomination, he could appoint himself, resign from being a Governor, it's the fastest way to DC for him without having to run an election first... He's not going to get the Presidential nomination... too Male, too white, That's likely going to Krazie Kamala or Crooked Gabby Newscum.....

If the senator dies in office his spouse Elaine Chow would probably be picked to serve out his term. Silent
