This is not correct. I rarely watch videos on YouTube, and when I do it's on my laptop or tablet. does roku work w/o a computer or web land line? in other words , just off of broadcast tv ? Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first | |||

Elderly? Roku for sure. The interface is simple and easy to navigate and use.
You need to have internet access of something like 3Mbps or higher and with the Roku, you need it to be via WiFi | |||

Some ROKU devices/TVs have an ethernet port for hard wiring to a modem if need be or as an option, either ethernet of WiFi, for your internet connection preference. Additionally, some also have a USB port for playing MKV, MP4 and MOV files as well as displaying images. In addition to internet ROKU channels, you can select local broadcast over the air (OTA) channels from within the ROKU interface. MAYBE 3Mbps is enough for streaming. Don't know, never tried it. But keep in mind that some folks have multiple devices with internet access and they all take up bandwidth. I had a ROKU and a desktop computer online and ran with 10Mbps with no issues 99% of the time. Ideally, I think at least 20Mbps is adequate for streaming in most homes, especially if multiple devices have internet access. I now run 25Mbps DSL and have a half dozen devices always hooked to the internet, with no streaming issues. | |||

... also many channels, you don't even need a Firestick or ROKU to enjoy. You can watch those channels on your computer. For example, PLUTO. You might use this link to PLUTO in order to at least check if your bandwidth is sufficient for streaming ... https://pluto.tv/tv/channel-lineup | |||
