Where to sell an old tractor?
4320 John Deere. Built in ‘72 according to the serial number.
It was mine and my Dad’s last project together. It’s just not a good fit for my operation anymore.
What’s some good places to post this thing?
I’ve looked at Old Iron but it seemed to be mostly small, fully restored equipment.

I had an old IH made in the 40's . I told a friend of mine to sell it and I would give him a healthy commission . He posted it on Facebook and it sold the next day . I never had to touch it . Big Grin

Yep I'd start with Facebook Marketplace. They main thing is to post a lot of nice quality images with detailed description of the tractor.

Here's the link to all the JD 4320s for sale on TractorHouse. Take a look at the specifics of each tractor vs what they're asking. Year, condition, hours, lift arms (yes/no), cab (with working A/C?), any accompanying implements are important things to consider in your pricing. Also any issues it has (motor smokes, hyds, brakes, condition of tires, etc) are things that you'll want to be honest about.

Some dealers will sell on consignment, with 10% commission as average. Older tractors in good condition should sell pretty well since the wise buyer won't want to mess with all the emission electronics on the newer models. The dealer I use says the majority of his repair work is newer tractors that don't get driven much. The electronics go bad quickly if not exercised often. This is more of a problem for hobby farmers who don't use their tractor weekly.

Post up some pictures so we can look at your tractor.

If you were in Central Florida, we'd be talking price. Old tractors have great value if in decent condition as they don't have computers or emissions control and can be repaired under a tree. Most get bought and shipped to Central and South America as they can be repaired there.

Iffy tractors from that decade are selling for triple their original cost in Eastern iowa.

I'm afraid that went way over my head. Care to elucidate? Roll Eyes

TractorHouse was going to be my suggestion. I’ve used it to buy and sell and I’ve found them very helpful on the selling end. If you haven’t used them before, the first listing is free - at least it used to be.

I’m impressed how well those machines hold their value, even over 50 years. No doubt they’re bring more now than they cost new.

Bendable; my sample is not nearly that clean. But it is a solid tractor. I used it a few years ago to do the till work for rebuilding a hay meadow.

Mjlennon: I grew up on old tractors. Mostly 2 cylinder JDs from the 1950s. We had a couple 5020 JDs when we planted wheat and soybeans.
My two year old NH T4.75 is nice (cab, AC, FWD & FEL), but I don’t see it still ticking after over a half century of use.

Thanks for the leads fellas. I’ll see what I can do if I can’t get it sold locally.
